Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

New Hires

Are new hires that were hired in past few weeks safe from this round of layoffs. I am assuming managers know that they’re team will need to make cuts if necessary and wouldn’t waste time hiring new employees knowing they have to lay them off very soon

@1dvt+1u7JbjQ5, it is tricky based on US law. Pregnancy cannot be used as a reason for termination. However, laying off a pregnancy employee using another reason always runs into a risk as the reason for termination is sometimes arguable between employee and employer if not always. Thus I am guessing pregnancy may still give you a bit more safety even in US. But by how much?

Maybe only female employee is safe if she gets pregnant during the layoff. I know at least in some countries it is illegal to layoff such an employee.

I worked there for 24 years and have seen them cut & still process new-hires. Then cut the new-hires later on. It’s unpredictable & dysfunctional.

Hahahaha! My ex-husband started at Intel in Sept 1997 and in December of 1997 he was offered his first buyout. It was the first of so many each of us received over the years, every couple of years another offer to leave for cash.

Crazy! I’m getting out this round!

A complex company like Intel is not immediately transparent with every group & manager down the chain, so no, new hires are not per se safe from layoffs.
