Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Kmart website fixed

Finally! It appears that the Kmart website has been fixed, as they have removed their closed stores from their locator page. You'll have to click on each state or territory to see what's listed for each one:

The website lists Key Largo, Marathon, and NY, NY, as still being open. All 3 have closed permanently. I guess it's not fixed, after all?

Not a very important detail, but just wanted to mention, that upon calling the pharmacies at NY ((212) 253-9661), and Freedom CA (831 728-9324), I get a recording at both numbers, with the same lady in a southern accent, stating that each location was closed. Try it. The fact that the same person recorded both announcements for 2 stores, 3000 miles apart, leads me to believe it was recorded at a different locations from the stores (especially since the accent is not common in CA or NY).

Other side tidbits, the closure of the Kmart main store and pharmacy in Manhattan, means the last Kmart stores in the famous 212 area code have closed (Bronx uses 718). Also, this frees up 2 separate 212 #'s, which I have read, are at a premium in Manhattan. Useless factoid, I felt like sharing.

Oddly, the now 1-Week since, closed store in Manhattan is still hiring for help to box up merchandise:

Now under Florida, I see the closed stores of Marathon and Key Largo, listed again!!! Ed must be just trolling us now. They were gone from the list last Week.

And EVERY liquidating store would be listed on SB's site.

It's not on sb360 because the property is already sold.

Ft. Lauderdale is NOT on SB360's site, nor are there any closing jobs listing. The store is not currently liquidating.

Yeah besides widespread reporting that the whole complex is being demolished there’s no proof whatsoever.

People claim more stores are being announced as going out of business tomorrow (Fort Lauderdale) but no evidence yet!

Hometown site shows hometown stores. I’d say something is about to go down.

@1hbr+1bP0Q8Fj Maybe this means they are all closing for good now. Let's hope so!

And now it seems to be un-fixed again. Sears, too. I see no stores listed on any state's pages.

Yep, here's what it looks like to me (and again, this is just a guess). The site has 4 columns of 10 rows each (total of 40 jurisdictions). I think they might have done that for symmetry, to have the list look like a perfect rectangle. Of the 40 jurisdictions listed, 3 are territories, so there are only 37 actual states listed. The 13 missing states are, Alabama
Alaska
Arizona
Arkansas
Georgia
Hawaii
Kansas
Louisiana
Mississippi
Missouri
Montana
Oregon
Rhode Island.

Why they picked those to remove? That's beyond me, but those are the 13 states missing. Again, I think they just randomly removed 13 states, so that 37 states, plus 3 territories equals a total of 40, so they could make 4 rows of 10. But who Knows, really?

Ya, that is odd.

@1lhv+1bP0Q8Fj

You're right, off course they exist! I'm beginning to wonder if even Ed Knows how many Hometowns are left LOL!

"They've also removed all of the Hometown stores, which I find puzzling. Those stores still exist, don't they?"

The reason we removed them is because we really don't know how many hometown stores remain open.

The "Nearby Stores" feature is broken for Sears, too. For instance, the Burbank and Pasadena CA stores are near each other, but don't show up on each other's pages.

The Sears store locator has also been updated, removing several long-closed stores as well as the few remaining Kmart "Cross Merch" locations. They've also removed all of the Hometown stores, which I find puzzling. Those stores still exist, don't they?

The "Nearby Stores" feature does not work for any of the stores in New York, New Jersey, or US Virgin Islands. (These are the only places that still have multiple Kmart stores within 50 miles of each other.)

They also completely randomly removed Louisiana from the list of states.

Yep, that's what I see too. Everything alphabetically before California is not on the map.
Also, for example, when I clicked on one of the Bronx locations,

https://www.kmart.com/stores/new-york/bronx/7654.html

I get an odd feature on the right side of the website which states "Nearby Stores
Sorry, there are no stores within 50 miles of this location, but shop online at Kmart.com."

Well, obviously that is false, as there is another store in Bronx that is very close to it.

It might be just me but it looks like they removed the states before California alphabetically that no longer have a Kmart (so Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, and Arkansas). I wonder why they removed those ones but didn't remove any others.

LOL, "https://g.co/kgs/BWwr68" mentioned below, is jus a google search, not an official company site. Google searches are often inaccurate and crowdsourced.

@pqx+1bP0Q8Fj I Know, right? They should fix that!

IDK, why don't they just delete the states where a store doesn't exist? Yeah, it'll make it look worse than it is, but really who are they kidding?

Now they just need to fix the Sears Auto site. They still have quiet a few closed ones listed such as Myrtle Beach SC and Concord, NC which closed earlier on in the year!

Thanks for that! I was bugging them for Years to fix it, and it looks like they finally did. Just want to inform you, though, that when I went to that NY link on a computer, you're absolutely right, about what it indicated. However, when I went to that site on mobile, it also listed Brooklyn and Bath (Bath closed around 2018 I think, LOL).
That being Said, I agree with you that the computer version of the website is correct. So thanks again, for the update. If they remove Manhattan from the NY store list, then the correct list of remaining NY state Kmarts, are Bronx, Bronx, Bridgehampton, and White plains.

Interestingly, the Manhattan pharmacy has already been removed from the pharmacy page. Putting in any Manhattan zip code (I used 10101, for example) , into the website finder, the only nearby location that comes up now is Bronx:

https://pharmacy.kmart.com/newrx-find-pharmacy

So again, we are down to 3 stateside Kmart pharmacies (Grass Valley CA, Marshall MI, & Bronx NY), as well as the territorial locations.

Only 1 slight error I was able to find was that the Manhattan store is still listed, but that could be because it closed so recently:

https://www.kmart.com/stores/new-york.html

Freedom and S.L.T. are still listed, but that's reasonable as they're not closing until next Month:

https://www.kmart.com/stores/california.html

So I counted 20 stores on their website (with Manhattan already having closed, and 2 CA stores about to close very soon), so 17 looks to be exactly right for non-closing stores. Note: they do NOT have Brooklyn listed on the NY page, which is because it's a department, not a full-line store. Told you so. There's your list from "corporate". 😉😜👏🎉🎶
