5 day rto is brutal for families with kids. How r u surviving this.
This is crazy. 3 day is understandable. 5 day is torture.

@1yy nah. It can’t take pictures. It so much of random data it will cost Qualcomm way too much to save.
A manager needs to chime in here and give accurate information.
@1yy huh I thought it would just show a percentage. It shows the manager each day? What about which door / building?
Gonna concentrate more on this than my actual work
@1x2 it’s shows all your badge events .. at the doors with cameras it also takes a snapshot of your face , really its average 5days a week before your flagged . Just talk with your manager that you have to pick up your kids … keep teams on your phone …
@1vs ok so being in office for 2-3 hours is ok ? Because there is so much traffic in school hours. Driving in school hours is so counter productive.
Did anyone (manager) get the first weekly report. At what level does it track.
Whether the employee was in or not … binary yes or no. Or it tracks the number of hours as well ?
You don’t have to be in all day , I’ve had to pick up kids before Covid … you just keep working when you get home like normal …
@1hd Why they are not complaining? most are on H1Bs....
@1hd - now that’s a valid argument! Don’t just complain about 5 days….maybe this question should be posed to the bosses.
@1dv once again HR response.
But HR doesn’t understand that 2019 and before was different.
Now companies are exploiting employee to come to work for 8 hours and also expect them to take a call at 9 pm in the night and 7 am in morning on a regular basis and also drive to work.
This is non sensical for families with kids. Great companies “nvidia” don’t require a 5 day RTO.
Give me one another company in tech space that is doing 5 day RTO. NO ONE.
3 day is more understandable.
Why people at Qualcomm are not complaining about this.
@1ef this response smells HR or CA written all over it. :)
@149
hmm, the office conditions are similar to those of a bus station
not many intellectuals go to a bus station to think
@13z
yeah our government sure likes to take advantage of the young
Difficult to continue s**king off your worthless status-collector boss unless you return to work.
Ha ha ha ha ha ...
@1e3 - try a roofer’s job for 8 hours a day. or stone masonry, cut and install kitchen tiles….brain work needs more energy than that?? — especially when most of you mo--ns are browsing web on the side! your a-s is spending most of that energy, not your brain.
@1dt you still don't get it! Comparing apples to oranges! Tech jobs require a lot of brain activity, which significantly deplete your body energy, making you tired and less productive after few hours. For physical jobs, you can last much longer, it's science! So, by saving few hours in traffic, you will save energy= getting more work done! Q wanting us back to office, it's fine, they will just got less productivity!
@OP many before you have survived that, lived their life and put their kids through college….my god, entitled goats!
@1dd looks like you need some education in spell checks and language interpretation. the point was - complaining that going to work for five days a week is hard on families with kids shows an ignorance about the world….
@1b6 Christiano, the jobs you mentioned can't be done remotely, morron!
you entitled goats! so you think a five day work week is hard on you because you got kids? and then you expect everyone else in the world to provide you services on all seven days if the week - think grocery stores, restaurants, clinics, hair salons, malls, entertainment and on and on the list goes. you think THEY don’t have kids?? it’s not hard on them but you su-kers who make hundreds of thousands of $$?? shame on you!
@13z thank you Mr CEO. A hundred years ago you, or your friends would most probably not have gotten to vote or own property.
Times change, have you considered changing?
Delusional takes thinking onsite is the only way. Clearly Nvidia is doing well with remote employees. Having the flexibility of hybrid at least makes sense. It’s not all or nothing.
@13z
100% agree. It is called work for a reason. WFH is great for entitled lower levels, but it is a nightmare for managers or customer facing leads. Someone like me who is in front of the customer almost 50% (no, I am not QCT CE) it is extremely stressful when the engineers who are WFH are distracted and make simple coding errors. This is not one-off. They are distracted even during critical code review meetings and you have to repeat, "John/Jane, this is your part, the bitmap here needs to be verified, did it pass unit test?"...no reply...no reply..."John/Jane...are you there?"..."we have a question for you"...finally, "oh sorry, I was on mute, can you please repeat the question?". You repeat the question, then they lie and say, "yes". Patch is delivered, it fails, rinse and repeat.
Not only has Qualcomm declined into the sewer over the last 25 years but those who complain about having to physically go to the work site are incredibly entitled.
It's called "going to work". The horror, the horror.
When I worked there was never a question that a physical presence was required. I showed up, performed my job, then went home. It didn't matter where I lived, I just did it. When we had a child, we got daycare and went to work. Period. No complaints, no whining, no sense of entitlement such as yours and other oxygen thieves I've read here.
In 1944 18 year old boys were getting cut in half by German machine g-n fire storming the beaches of Normandy , and you sit there and complain about have to go to work 5 days a week??
You will starve when the SHTF.
@ve so faang actually hires layoff.com losers like you?
How did you work 5 days a week prior to COVID. Same thing. Stop making lazy excuses. Take the other job offer if you don’t like it. You won’t
@ve No you won't be moving anywhere and no, you don't have any offers, because you would have taken one and already gone.
@xf: Good point. Test how unlimited the "unlimited vacation" policy really is by taking Thursday and Friday off every week and seeing how the company responds. Touché!
Surviving by taking advantage of the unlimited vacation loophole!
@kp At-will employment is a legal doctrine in U.S. labor law that means either the employer or the employee can terminate the employment relationship at any time, for any reason, or for no reason at all—as long as the reason isn’t illegal.
🔄 Employers Can Change Work Conditions
Under at-will employment, companies have broad discretion to modify job terms, including: Work location (e.g., remote to in-office), Schedule or hours, Job responsibilities
Unless an employment contract explicitly guarantees remote work, employers can legally require employees to return to the office—even if the employee prefers remote work.
Employers cannot enforce RTO mandates in ways that:
Violate discrimination laws (e.g., disability accommodations under ADA)
Breach a signed employment contract
Retaliate against protected activities (e.g., whistleblowing)
( copilot)
@ve Great, time to move. We both agree it is time for you to go. Both you and us will be better off.
@tx hhhh, talk for yourself. I got onsite offers doubling my TC with FAANG, will be moving on soon, your comments make me want move out faster!
@j1 I stayed close knowing that eventually remote was not going to stay. You made your bet that it was going stay. You lost that bet. Now you are upset you lost the bet. I bet you will still be around bi--hing about this in the coming year(s) as not many companies allow remote anymore.
@kq for a 100 years it was only okay to pay you in fake money and make your children work. Look up labor right movements and stop simping for the billionaires.
If people actually leave, rto policies may be revisited. People threatened to leave from some faang companies, in reality were unable to do so. Only threatening to leave will not cut it
@hg No. Its not about someone else's poor decisions.
Its about leaving atleast some flexibility for the employees.
3-day RTO is a perfect balance between flexibility and getting best out of the onsite. So lets do that. This 5-day RTO is cr-p.
People were ok with this for the last 100 years prior Covid and here we have a bunch of softies crying here...
@j1 It is legal for the company to change the nature of your position-- who you report to, the responsibilities of your position and whether it's remote or in-office. Unless you have a written employment contact stating your position is solely remote, you're S.O.L. The company doesn't care how long your commute is, if you have to drop-off/pick up kids... That's your personal responsibility, not the company's. Bottom line, if you can't handle 5 days in the office, the door always is open to leave. But know this, there will a 100+ candidates to fill your shoes. Choose wisely, grasshopper!
@hg I was staying nearby. When CVD hit, we became remote, so needed more space for an office, had to go further to get something within budget. Q didn't pay me for the office^^. Also, a lot of folks applied and joined a position that was listed "remote", now Q changed the contract terms. You are right on one thing: move to another company! Don't want work under a stupid management and salty colleagues!
@ds driving 1 hour and a half for work is a poor decision. You decided to buy a cheaper home far from office. Why the company should care about your poor decisions? Resign and find a company closer to your home. Everyone is important but nobody is irreplacable.
For the people defending 5-days RTO, driving 1h30 / day roundtrip consumes a significantly amount of your body battery, which leaves less for work. That's why it's less efficient for productivity. its a stupid decision, they should have just enforced 2-3 days for meetings and teamwork. For people calling us lazy, during CVD, a lot of us were working onsite because the task required presence, we didn't complain.
I don’t get it how everyone is ok with this.
