Samsung just announced plans for new R&D in Folsom. Intel should sell the site to them and move into some leased space down by the river or prison

They came out here in the 80’s by the thousands. Not one of um had any interest in cattle, a truck, western hat or belt buckle. Folsom was here before Intel came to town and we will be here long after it’s gone. Buy y’all.
I'll be there to reminisce laugh and celebrate the day they finally take the Intel signs down. I remember a 2022 meeting with Gordon Moore where he told Pat, "Don't sc--w it up." Sadly, his advice seems to have been ignored.

This site is history. No buyer is going to invest and lease back to Intel. Folsom is not a long term viable option for Intel. It is all long term old employees. They have not replenished headcount with college grads in Folsom for 5-7 years. Developers will tear the buildings down and build a 55 plus community. It might have viability as a hospital. Folsom site is doomed. Move to Oregon, Arizona or New Mexico if you want to ride the Intel Titanic down.
I think lease-back is intended to unlock the value of the property, since there is quite a bit of unused real estate on that site (and many other campuses).
Surprised to read that HF is 50 acres. That one should just be sold, moving the labs to JF or FM.
The company labs have become a sprawling enterprise and some site consolidation would be good.
Still, can't help but think this is part of preparing to sell off divisions or potentially break up the entire company, if they continue to lose market share. It can be both a rational site consolidation AND the shedding of assets to clean up prior to a sale.
Arguably, x86 is past its peak and until the company, or its successors, move on to RISC-V (ARM is also getting old), then there will be less need for lab space as the total addressable x86 market shrinks (due to ARM PC and Datacenter market share gains).

The anonymity of this site causes it to be polluted with trolls, who think posting gloom and doom has some effect on the stock price.
It doesn't affect the stock price in any way, but it is an good example of the fact that about a third of the population are sociopaths.
Read the article and it is totally clear there is no intent to walk away from the campus.

Intel isn’t closing its Folsom site near Sacramento, one of its major operating hubs with around 5,000 employees. It says it wants to make more efficient use of the property, which consists of seven buildings and 1.6 million square feet of offices and labs.
“We are exploring more cost-effective space usage options for Intel’s Folsom site, including a partial lease back of our current space,” Intel said in its statement.
Sites in the US should have been consolidated long long ago..
I mean why be so spread out with huge campuses when companies such as MSFT, GOOG, AAPL, and now NVDA never ever pursued this model of multiple, huge campuses ?

Intel can sell this valuable space to Nvidia or AMD, or some of the other up and coming great companies around. there are many of them.

Yes, I confirm this news. All Folsom employees got a mail today about this news. Q1 2025 it will be made available for sale.
