Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Why doesn't HR try to improve morale?

HR is useless, they sit around doing nothing in an attempt to improve morale at at&t. Maybe they would not be successful but why not try? Don't they realize how bad it is? Maybe they just don't care.

There was a time when the company actually cared about employees as human beings and customers as actual users of our services. Until they get back to WHO pays our bills and WHO does the work then we will all continue to be treated like dirt.

Another stupid question. Organizations improve when leadership establishes such goals, in tandem with teams who are committed to change. It is not a one way street. Those who think it is HR’s job to make it all better, but reject any participation or interest in achieving change goals are complicit in failure. Unfortunately, teams like those who post here could care less about improving morale. Carry on with your bashing.

Better morale is not necessary when your overall management style is to horse whip employees into compliance. You have either been here a short time or are blind to the internal style of management.

It would be best for you to move on somewhere else. Based on your question it is clear you still have the false sense of hope that this company will change direction. It’s been this way for decades and this style and attitudes of management within the ivory tower are embedded deep

"Isn't the name Human Resources an oxymoron? "

Not really. "Humans" are to Human Resources as trees are to a lumberjack.

You're just a number on a spreadsheet that needs to be managed down in the company's eyes, and HR is there to facilitate that.

Hr is not in a position to do anything about moral. Management is the only one to do anything about it. More money won’t change moral. It’s an attitude towards accommodating and promoting a good work experience. Which includes leadership and making sure workers see value in the work they perform. That is all management

HR is not helpful. Senior Leadership is not helpful. All those woke and diversity emails are not helpful.

You’ve never had dealings with HR? Can you guess which organization ensures you get paid, keeps track of attendance, rolls out information on open enrollment, recruits, hires, etc? Why not abolish HR and let those of you who think HR does nothing handle your payroll checks. #stop the ignorance

Isn't the name Human Resources an oxymoron? If what you are saying is true they are not a resource for employees. I've never had any dealings with them.

The union sides with management behind closed doors usually. Tell the union representative that you are requesting arbitration and see how quick it’s settled in your favor. Try it and see. Call state and district also.

HR's job is to represent the interests of senior management, not the interests of the rank and file.

HR is a huge umbrella of divisions and sub organizations but I assume you mean Employer/Employee Relations.....Since you asked, what do you think ATT’s leadership needs to do to improve morale? Seriously, there are thousands of posts here that express the multitude of ways that ATT gets it wrong. What should they do to improve morale? PS: No need to rip leadership, rehash failed acquisitions, and frankly, try to turn back the hands of time....Those aren’t helpful remarks.....

Let's just say for a moment that HR actually cared about the employees (yeah, I know, ridiculous). What could they do to improve morale when it's the c-suite that's the cause of the problem?

Mismanagement, arrogance, epic failure after epic failure, mass layoffs, eviscerated benefits, microscopic raises, constant pointless 'town halls' that only serve to salve upper management ego, no clear vision for the business, quarterly reorgs, and constant lies are the root of low morale. All of these are entirely because of Stink and his gang of nitwits. Other than firing the entire top three levels of T executives, stripping them of all retirement benefits, and forcing them to repay their obscene salaries, what can HR do to counteract the problems?

The sad truth is when a company's executives are so institutionally riddled with this level of hubris and contempt of workers, the dissatisfaction metastasizes throughout the employee base until the condition is not only terminal, but resistant to palliative care.

Asking HR to help is like asking Santy for a pony.

Hr is hired by and paid by management. Not sure what people think they should be able to do. Change policies written by their management?

People need to understand HR isn't there for you - HR is there to protect THE COMPANY.

They don't want anything to do with you. If you go to HR, their only concern is how does your problem impact the company and how do they make it go away without getting sued.

If you have a legitimate problem you think needs to be addressed by HR, go talk to an attorney first.

HR is not an advocate for the employees. They are there to create polices to keep the company out of lawsuits and bad PR.

HR is pretty miserable to deal with. They aren’t out to help any employee at this company, ever. They are all on a power trip and will refuse to lift a finger or push a button to do anything for anyone. HR is barely human and most definitely not a resource.
