Intel sees AI opportunity for standalone programmable chip unit

Artificial intelligence offers a growing and potentially lucrative opportunity for Intel's freshly standalone programmable chip unit, its CEO Sandra Rivera said.

Intel's programmable chip unit began operating as a standalone business at the beginning of the year, and on Thursday outlined its plans for the future and its official name: "Altera, an Intel company."

INTC has Zero Credibility at this point, all we have is a bunch of flowery words, PowerPoint slides, and empty promises.

By my own count, LRB (2008) turned into MIC in ~2010 (Knights Ferry/Corner). Bought Nervana, Movidius, Habana. Talked big about Ponte Vecchio, and promised even bigger things with Realto Bridge.

Then JMcV had to walk back and said Oops, we didn't know what we're doing, Railto Brige is cancelled. (https://www.anandtech.com/show/18756/intel-scraps-rialto-bridge-gpu-next-server-gpu-will-be-falcon-shores-in-2025)

And now SR is gonna magically win the AI market with FGPAs. While NVDA > $2T and AMD > $300M market cap on the strength of their AI ACTUAL PRODUCTS.

The amount of negativity in all the posts against intel makes me wonder if mostly laidoff people visit this page or one’s worried about losing job in next round

Intel: let's buy a company for $15B, ruin its value, then spin it back out with a career Intel exec, this time the former VP of HR, at the helm. It's guaranteed to lose Intel billions and depress Intel stock so investors lose out.

Intel investors: sure why not. I could have invested in NVDA 10 years ago when BK was ba----g his diversity VP, but I'm all in on the Intel train, which is what the diversity VP had to do to get the position as a fresh MBA ALP grad.

Tired of all these articles with “hypotheticals”… look at AMD. AMD is NOW… they bought Xilinx and they made it a profitable part of the company… INTC on the other hand bought Altera to let it die and try to sell it for less money than what it paid for. So stupid to the point that is sickening. Time to expel the whole ELT, starting with PG and then the whole BoD!!
