BU Spinoffs

Hearing CB and Tanzu won't be going to BC. Any comments?

Saw some previous mentions of Accenture and HCL. Google another

No one is going to buy Horizon because it only works on VSphere and this is the products biggest crutch. The only thing that is worth anything in the EUC portfolio is Airwatch.

@2drj+1hN3GPAX CBC has native integration with WSO Intelligence (security dashboards and automations) and unique integration with vCenter (CB plug-in, VDI lifecycle, vulnerability management built-in the vCenter CB plug-in), also afaik there will be announced new integrations during this VMW Explore. It would be a waste to shutdown or sell CB only because all the investment made and the existing integrations.

If you really knew the capabilities about the current integrations of CBC with the current VMW products and the value of CB you wouldn’t be talking so cheap about it

@1dit+1hN3GPAX native integrations? Is that a joke? The CB BU has done jack sh-t since they got acquired to integrate. So much so that WS1 went to a different partner for threat defense.

What about Tanzu? Who may buy that?

A few weeks ago some posters on here were stating a "transfer to HCL". Seemed out of left field but have to thank it came from somewhere. FWiW BC has a history with HCL

i would welcome a sale of CB rather than join the slash and burn - i bow down to my new IBM overlords

While getting rid of CB for a worse product doesn’t make any sense, especially since it’s natively integrated with several VMW products..

HCL? Don’t think it makes much sense for HCL to acquire a security vendor.

Accenture? Well they did acquire Symantec’s Deep Insight from BC and they invest in security, there’s a chance..

Google? Well from those options this is the one that actually makes more sense since they are lacking of security solutions, plus they are hiring many security engineers, and iirc Google stated they will make a huge investment in Security, so.. there’s a chance.

I think IBM could also be interested since EPP/EDR/XDR are products they are missing from their current portfolio, and they really invest in security.

Time will tell

Interesting if CB is not get integrated into Symantec when CB is far superior of a security product.

"We believe Carbon Black (Security) and Tanzu (DevOps) are potential "for sale" assets." Date: June 15.

What BUs does Hock want again? ESXI and VMware on AWS? That’s it? No NSX, no Tanzu, EUC, no vSAN, no CB?

If this were to happen and CB & Tanzu did not get brought to BC, what’s the most likely outcome for employees within those BUs? If the BUs were sold, would the people go with the sale or would redundancy be more likely? Could the BUs just be dissolved & employees be made redundant

EUC is the ARR growth leader. that is a bonus in EUC's favor. But EUC (and its whole work from anywhere mantra) are not easy to gel with Hock's way of running a business.

The trick is who would buy EUC? Not Citrix, Not MS, Not Google, Not Amazon. They wont take on the "legacy" tech. And they wont buy it just to buy the customers (the math doesnt work out). And for sure they wont buy it to buy the engineering team. So....

That leaves a private equity play or some smaller or more distant company from our core looking to get into the EUC business. And suck in the ARR.

EUC KINDA makes sense since it conflicts so much with their datacenter focused business and ability to play on big infrastructure within a customer for years. EUC is behind the curve right now Airwatch is fighting with bigger more established competitors and Horizon (onprem) is so laden with tech debt...
