Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Interesting job openings at Westwood Kmart...

So I was checking the Sears jobs website, and noticed that the Westwood Kmart, has a job opening for a full time HR person. (specifically called “personnel coordinator/office lead) For a store that could in theory close at any moment, seems strange to hire a full time human resources person. And the weird part, it said the job was field management, but only for store 3202.

Westwood is also hiring a part-time customer service associate to work the customer service counter. And I’m pretty sure they recently had cashier openings as well. Maybe the Westwood store might hang around for a bit longer than thought?

Just seems odd to go on a hiring spree, especially when several full time people were let go at other sears/kmart stores.

@3lvc+19xJln3N LMAO, I am list man Jack. I haven't changed, um, Jack (LOL). I am the one who has been single-handily fighting off the Brooklyn trolls. I have been maintaining the Kmart list of now 23 stores since 2019. I 100% agree that Brooklyn is only a Sears. Preach a bit more to the choir? I am the same person who maintains that these job openings are false, and empty. Pick a lane for your argument and stick with it. Mine has been consistent. I am the one who wrote that these Full-Time jobs are fake nothing-burgers. Not sure what your point or angle is, but keep preaching to the choir! Brooklyn is only Sears. My master Kmart list does not include Brooklyn because it's not a Kmart.

Cool video of WESTWOOD. The store is desolate, empty, and is practically begging to be closed. Trust me, it will soon:

LMAO, engineer is right, and you're preaching to the choir. I have been the # 1 advocate of Brooklyn Sears NOT being counted as a Kmart because it IS NOT a Kmart. What else do you want to invent an argument with me about, hmm? Brooklyn will not be included in my master Kmart list, because it is not a full-line Kmart. Preach to the choir a bit more, why don't you, LOL?

As an engineer, why don't you explain how a 10,000 sqft area located in a basement without a separate entrance constitutes a Kmart store. I'm waiting to hear you expert analysis of this.

Engineer is actually right. And go ahead and try, with your real name, if you want, to apply to ANY of those silly positions (FULL-TIME), and if someone calls you back for an interview, then I'll stand corrected. I maintain (until proven otherwise), those are hollow, "nothing", listings. As the expression goes, there's no "there", there. Those positions are fake AF, and nobody will call you for them, because those openings don't actually exist.

Civil engineer, my a–.

"I could Pay Eddie's Salary out of my Pocket-Change, if I wanted to" LMAO... so could I, I literally have more than enough money in my pocket right now. https://www.businessinsider.com/ceos-who-take-1-dollar-salary-or-less-2015-8#richard-fairbank-10

LMAO, I am a civil engineer, and thus am more than qualified for ANY job this sawed off company could offer, you dingus. I could Pay Eddie's Salary out of my Pocket-Change, if I wanted to, so nice try.

I have never worked for this excuse for a company (or anywhere in retail) and never will. I did this as an experiment to see if the jobs are real.

But that's not the point.
They only go by what I write on the application. If I write that I'm Jon Smith with 10 Years experience as a store manager at Wally, then that's more than plenty of experience for any job they have.
I have also had other people apply to Sears jobs with real names and still get the generic form-letter reply. Alternatively, I have used fake names to apply to other companies and I DID receive positive replies by phone or email.

These jobs are hollow nothing-burgers. Nothing more, maybe less. Go ahead and apply to one of them. Use your real name if you want. They won't call anybody because those jobs are nothing but computer-generated algorithms.

@2kbk+19xJln3N You got rejected because you're not qualified for the job, or any job for that matter. They probably wouldn't even hire you to round up the shopping carts in the parking lot.

Anyone else think using a fake name and other fake information might cause your application to get rejected too? Try it with some other well-known companies and see if any of them call you in for an interview. dumb–s!

@2adq+19xJln3N Exactly right, man! As a test, apply for one of these "FULL-TIME" jobs. I tried, just as an experiment, to apply for a few of them in a variety of different states, just to see if they were real. Within Minutes, you'll receive a generic email reply stating something to the effect of "we thank you for applying but we are pursuing different candidates now. Your application will remain on file, yada yada yada".

So it was never seen by a human being, it just gets replied to by a generic rejection form-letter cookie-cutter email. The reason is that these aren't real "jobs".....they are generic, hollow, place-holding nothing-burgers. There are no such Full-Time openings. They are just filler nothings. Like the middle of a donut, there is nothing there.

Try it for yourself. Apply to any one of those "jobs", use a fake name if you want. I can promise nobody will ever call you back, because there never was an "opening" to begin with, in the first place.

They never change the job descriptions. If you read cashier, cash office, back room, HR, all the descriptions have been the same for years. I assume these kmarts aren't really looking for full time HR but might hire a part timer.

The Kmarts near me had this position and some others posted right up through closure but they really weren't serious openings. I worked in HR for Sears and I actually inquired because I was curious.

@1dap+19xJln3N I apologize for the tone of my message, OP. I realized it might have come off wrongly. Just a heads up that those job listings have nothing to do with the expected closings. Kingston, Willow Street, Big Bear Lake, and other Kmarts had Full-Time job listings right until they were announced closing. So you are correct, just gotta wait and see. But since you mentioned the NJ stores, they have both been listed for lease for awhile, so I'm not sure if that means much, but both are available:

@1drv+19xJln3N OP here. I wasn’t predicting, just found it interesting the job openings, and wondered (and hoped LOL) if it meant good news. But thanks for the info! I guess we just wait and see how long Westwood survives.

I posted this in the past, but it's still true:

Imagine thinking that Sears job postings, have anything whatsoever to do with future closings. LOL, the last NC Kmart had a store manager job listing just immediately before it was announced closing. As did Holyoke MA, right before they were announced as closing.

Unless the job listing specifically states "store closing", it means nothing. Those listings are just generated by a computer-based algorithm so people think they are hiring and not closing.

I have seen stores with zero jobs listed stay open, and jobs with tons of Full-Time managerial openings, be announced as closing The Next Week.
There are MANY Kmarts/Sears with Full-Time jobs listed, that have an equal chance of closing as any other. WESTWOOD is no exception. Heck, that goofy Montana store has 1 Full-Time opening and it might get the axe Any Minute.

TL/DR: The job listings have absolute zero bearing on what stores will be closing on the next list, so frankly, your prediction is about as meaningful as my picking Roulette numbers in Las Vegas. It's totally random, and any number has an equal chance to come up on Roulette Wheel. Put all the stores into a hat, shake it, and pick some while blindfolded, they all have an equal chance of closing (with the small exception of Guam/USVI Kmarts, which we can be fairly certain won't be closing soon, because of the monopoly they enjoy in those regions).

There are several for soft line and hardline supervisors at several of the Sears that are left yet they just laid off a bunch of full time workers. Doesn’t make any sense.
