Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

Opinions wanted

This site is obvious place to vent but we should actually be trying to specify what the issue is also. This is the one of the few places we can speak our mind without fear or favor.

My view is that the fundamental issue is that we promote the wrong people and they also do that in turn. There is categorically some incredibly capable individuals in the company but there are many other SLLs who are just there because they worked with someone and they like them. No real intelligence and are myopic on their views. Without a feedback mechanism for managers (like we had a few years ago) then this will never be addressed. I think this would be a fundamental change and would eventually improve the company. It would also align with newest servant-leadership MBA talk that's being espoused.

Interested in your own thoughts or feedback on mine.

You could not have worded this any better. My only add would be that Bp is also full of bad apples. You cannot have bad apples weeding out bad apples.

I believe a 3rd party consulting firm needs to be hired to do the house cleaning at BP and Bpx simultaneously. Both entities have arrogant leaders and leaders that were improperly promoted.

It really is that bad here. I'm speaking from the Bpx side.

Bpx is even worse. The solution is to get rid of the bad actors starting at the top. For many years now Bpx has promoted the worst leaders. They are arrogant, unqualified, and hard-headed. They don't listen to wisdom when its presented. They need to start with the c suite and move to the Permian and then the Reserves Team and Eagleford Team. There are a few decent leaders in Haynesville but those guys are the minority and they have no voice.

Bring in managers that are humble and thoughtful in their approaches. For so long, people have been beat down that don't deserve it. The same small few get promotion opportunities while way better qualified professionals are looked down on. Abort your woke DEI agenda as well.

Don't believe me? Then go look how many great people have quit Bpx over the past 24 months. Its a sinking ship and leadership is too arrogant to listen.

The new CEO at Bpx has been around for a while and he contributes to the nonsense. Bpx has a horrible reputation.

Go ahead guys...keep ramming your agenda through without care.

Bp NEEDS TO CLEAN HOUSE AT BPX ON ALL MIDDLE MANAGERS & UPWARD.

That is my opinion. Its worth what you've paid for it. Take it or leave it. I couldn't care less. The truth is that we've scattered so many great people across the industry that all of you horrible managers will hit a hard reality check once you are finally dismissed from Bpx.

Everyone knows about you. You can turn it around but you need to humble yourselves.

When you had a situation in BP whereby the former CEO was promoting women he had slept with, there is no hope for things being better lower down the ranks. It's who you know, not what you know.

bp will never have a real “career progression” plan. Our P&C department (aka HR) refuses to do that. Besides, if we had a clear and formal career progression plan then leadership would not be able to promote their friends - they would have to promote based on merit. That will never happen at a British company like bp.
