Are we getting paid anything extra for working on Thanksgiving? Has anyone heard anything about time and a half? At least something to compensate hourly associates?

We are in the middle of a pandemic. Belk will not be the only store that is closed to customers on Thanksgiving Day. Read the news much?

Most retailers survived the closure this spring with their on line orders. And, yes, as we reopened we have seen in store traffic. Not enough to right the ship! Omnichannel has been a focus for elk and other retailer leaders since 2015.

But!!, most retailers are “only” existing today and avoiding other options. The shut downs for the PANDEMIC forced most operations 5 years in operational planning and forecasts. A quick and necessary juxtaposition to keep them alive and their employees, EMPLOYEED!

This Thanksgiving is about being thankful for being employed; to be able to provide benefits to ourselves and our families, to be able to say to our children re entering their classrooms, “ face masks, 6 ft distance, and constant hand washing. And to work with out co-workers that follow the rules to keep each other safe.

You work in retail because “WHY?”

Yes, if you are working this Thanksgiving, be THANKFUL!!! Fulfillment will be fueling EVERY retail establishment except SBM. They have openings; no benefits.

Curious to know. As much as we appreciate being called back to our store teams, is Thanksgiving Day still a paid holiday? Thought I saw on Workday and benefits; Belk has one paid holiday, (Christmas).

Previously, when associates worked Thanksgiving, they were paid their holiday pay, plus time and one half. Part time associates were paid time and one half.

I am so glad I got the hell out of there. They don’t care about employees.

Stop trying to bring politics in here. I would rather take what's in the wt house now instead of what the other would do to this country.

No one gives a d–n . Many other large retailers are being closed on Thanksgiving. At least Belk used to give its associates the morning of Thanksgiving off . Yeah just s— it up and go with the flow . Retail has gone to hell.

Surely you all read about the glowing September retail sales reports from the Commerce dept.?

Well...what you probably didn't read in the drill downs of the report are that department store sales continued their downward spiral. More significantly, credit card expenditures were down a whopping 6% pointing to continued weakness in the economy and probable recession though hidden by current occupants of the WH.

As for Turkey Day in general...it is foolish to think that families will travel for big get togethers and engage in any frantic price driven shopping. Like it or not...the new normal is now no longer new. What once was will never be again.

Stay safe, be well and be sure to VOTE.

Better days are coming. But as sure as today's phones do not resemble yesterday's...tomorrow's retail world will continue to be vastly different than antediluvian brick and mortar stores.

From 6 am to 4 pm associates will be picking orders for curb side pick up that will be allowed to pick up between 4 pm to 11 pm. The store will remain close to the public. Plus any fulfillment done that day. Walmart and other companies will have the same as well with people working while store is closed to fill orders. Welcome retail where you work holidays, weekends and evenings.

I have to say I’m really not surprised. Most other stores are closing “ to thank their employees for all their hard work during this crisis “. Well we know Belk wouldn’t do anything nice for their employees.
