Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Seeking Alpha 10/3/25

We need the Vintage engineer! STAT!

Summary

Teradata Corporation continues to face persistent declines in revenue, earnings, and FCF, reinforcing the value-trap case for the stock despite trading at just 10x forward P/E.

Total revenue is expected to decline for the seventh straight quarter in 3Q on a YoY basis (excluding the nearly flat growth in 3Q FY2024), driven by deals that.

Low-end cloud migrations are largely complete, but the company is struggling to win over large cloud customers, as shown by the declines in recurring revenue.

Cloud ARR is expected to grow 14% to 18% YoY for FY2025, showing no growth acceleration in 2H FY2025.

Large deal delays and slow customer adoption highlight execution issues, with TDC losing market share to cloud competitors such as MSFT, GOOGL, SNOW, and Databricks.

Thanks for clearing the foggy confusion about shorts. What a relief. On a different note, investment may not be your forte. Your money you decide what to do with it. On an even different note, the numbers still did not make sense. Although your country's tax rules may be different.

I was drinking the kool-aid for several years and kicking myself for not selling at $55 per share a few years back...finally sold that declining junk @ $21 per share so I could still afford a Taco Bell value meal...if anyone is dumping money into this stock today they need to get their head examined.

@1b8 it's a longer term hold to me, I don't mind putting 12K in on something I believe in. SM is steering things in the right direction so the stock is highly undervalued rn. Again I don't really look at the day to day value of the stock price it's the value over time that matters. Imagine how much TDC can be worth in 20 years

@1ag You lost $12K and you still have pride in Teradata? I hope there are more astute employees there to try to save things.

@fj I should clarify those stocks weren't shorted just held for less than a year, I sold at around a 15% loss. Overall I am in the red more than 12k still but it is a stock that I believe in. It brings me pride to be a shareholder as an employee

They likely meant that they sold few shares earlier than planned, reducing net capital gain. But they also mention "RP is there ....". It's hard to gauge what is being said and what is actually meant. Probably naive, likely hallucinating maybe just upset. Let them be.

When was the last new logo? A: A very very long time ago. Snowflake and Databricks are winning business everywhere whilst teradata shrinks and shrinks.

@bd You wrote: "Teradata has strong sales for numerous product lines so I wouldn't dump on the stock just because it is down, I will admit for the sake of transparency that I have shorted some small portions of my holdings".

Teradata policy explicitly states that employees are not allowed trade options or short TDC stock. Do you not adhere to Teradata ethics? Violations can result in termination.

Good analysis, except the cloud migration statement appears off. While a number of customers have signed "cloud agreements," these agreements simply provide on-prem discounts in exchange for possible future cloud migration assistance. Teradata then reports some of the on-prem revenue as cloud revenue. What the analyst is seeing is likely something of a mirage.

@OP why should I be concerned about the stock price and PE ratio as an engineer? RP is there on the ELT to steer those things in the right direction, as an engineer I'm here to focus on the tech in the sunny San Diego office! We have an excellent code review process with a strong US based engineering team- so from my perspective things are aok. Teradata has strong sales for numerous product lines so I wouldn't dump on the stock just because it is down, I will admit for the sake of transparency that I have shorted some small portions of my holdings for tax purposes but I still have a large amount of stock (over 90k) that is a long term hold to me.

Now that the 'the last hurrah' dog and pony show is over, reality will continue to set in with more rifs, gloomier days, and continued customer erosion and shrinking customer base/revenues to be reported, etc. Reminds me of the song - Turn out the lights, the party is over!

lol… anyone with any understanding of 2025 forecast/business never really believed it. Finance (in the absence of a full time CFO, perhaps RS himself) should be held responsible for allowing such forecast to be published without properly questioning it.
