Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Wake up. Those managers no matter what level will be safe

Nobody needs solid technical workers or critical thinkers. Just lots of PowerPoint experts and “leaders.” They are protected by salary, bonus , stocks and keep their job.
Just see the recent onshore announcement. Same people , same number of layers. Those buddy only care about their job security with projects on record. They never care about value adding work and future of the company.

Who are you kidding. It is amazing how we rationalize a not so great situation. Just make sure your accomplishments are well documented and backed up by management. Beware of the PIP monster that surfaces when you least expect it.

If we do not hear anything this week before the earning ‘ call. Then I think we will be safe till the end of this year. I think the management may just decide to manage with current structure till bankruptcy or oil price goes up.

For us the individual contributors, it is not that bad. Just glad to have paychecks till the last day

I completely agree with the comment below. My promotion was put on hold due to the stock price and then to see all these other promotions that just went out is a total disrespect move.

At a time when we’re supposedly not doing promotions, they send out a memo with a list of new promotions. Slap in the face to those who have busted their A** on the APC deal, went above and beyond the scope of their role, increased workload and have yet to receive anything.

Oxy is behaving in an irresponsible manner by not preserving cash. Why can’t they lay people off and just pay their severance in warrants to be redeemed in the next seven years when the stock goes above 22. Better than nothing.

Surprised? This is Oxy's MO. At Oxy it's not based of your overall performance. It's not what you know it's WHO you know.

Yea it’s so dumb when we need cash right now that the company is promoting more useless layers of yes men managers.

Was a little shocked that anyone is being promoted right now. Especially when they don’t have the career experience that others do.

In a way, we will be safe from layoffs too. These layers of management need enough staff to make them powerful. We will keep this way till bankruptcy or struggle till when oil price picks up

Yep, pretty demoralizing that over three quarter of the people in that announcement have a title change/promotion, even though many of them are in the same role. Was it really necessary to promote anyone now?

Also, brand new organization/team created - how is it going to be staffed? I will lose my sh– if we hire externally when we have been waiting weeks for approval to backfill field positions.

This multi-layer management structure consumes the majority of the money for staffing. They are scarifying promotion and salary raise for individual contributors to make money for fat bonus and stock for the management. There is no career for any personal development. This is just a place for paycheck. How can they expect motivation and productivity from people not getting recognized.
