Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

2024 salary raise percent. May as well start the conversation now.

So I'm not GM, but tier one. We service for everyone, none of the OEMs can operate easily without us in the automotive field. Top contender in all applications. We are that large of a player specific for electronics.

With that said, for the first time I have ever heard, we are not getting a raise this year, but we are getting bonuses. This is what was perceived to be a record year in earnings, and inflation.

So, the question remains, for GM, or other manufacturers, are you also in a similar boat? Are you getting a raise? Are we the exception?

This smells of 2008 vibes all over again. With UAW getting massive increases, electric failing across the board, we've seen this failure throughout history. Concessions are probably next for the UAW - to mimic the failures of times before.

I have it on good authority from hiring managers at the big three, that when the buyouts occurred, backfills weren't granted. Instead, they were instructed to replace high priced employees for two (2) lower costs one. The caveat to all this, was in the history of design and engineering spanning 50 or so years, they've never successfully replaced us, like they could IT. Every time an overseas counterpart learned something, they quit for a nickle raise elsewhere, and we had to train the next monkey inline. It would never bare fruit. This is the difference between building vehicles for 100 years, and the overseas ignorant that have tried within the field for less than a few years.

Anyways, are you folks getting raises this year and how much do you think?

Beautifully said. There are people that actually think everything you just said is a good thing - and is accurate. You gave everyone one of the grand clues in your own point by point bullets, but they won't see it until they're knee deep in "you will own nothing and be happy".

Anyone smart enough to identify the most damning of his bullet points? It's true, but it's also the canary in the coal mine.

Nothing to worry about. The Federal Reserve adjusted interest rates so perfectly that:

  • Inflation is down and headed to 2%
  • Banks are in great health
  • Consumers are resilient
  • The stock market is hitting records every day
  • The housing market is in great shape
  • Unemployment is at a record low (3.9%)

Soft landing achieved!
After I get done ordering my new Lyric, I'm booking a Viking Cruise. God Bless General Motors!

ZF group not giving raises either I'm hearing.

Get ready. It's about to hit the fan. Tier ones not giving raises. The OEM's have committed and given everything on a silver platter. EV's going splat.

Goes what happens next?

Tata and Wipro have a list of good remote jobs.

They place people every day.

The definition of great pay depends on where you are and the cost of living there.

New Delhi?

That’s unfortunate to read but not surprising given everyone is trying to squeeze every last nickel and dime out. It does feel like the end of a business cycle with that sort of behavior but yes gm salary did get raises. If you think you are worth more than your employer is willing to compensate maybe consider looking elsewhere.

Another non-GM related post.
I’m not surprised that suppliers are squeezing their staff. I worked for suppliers for years and know that drill.
GM employees did get raises and very generous bonuses.
Not sure about next year but hoping for the best.

It's also intelligent to recall back, that ALL corporations across the world, synchronized their Covid bullsh*t in unison, where one story at a corporation was much the same as another. And the timing of it all they walked lock step with each other. It really gave the world a glimpse of how controlled it all was.

Make no mistake, they are also synchronizing return to work, merit increases, and more, etc. If you want to kick it back at them, share your stories, and use that information against these corporations.

My corporation earned a healthy return this year, and we received a $0.0 merit increase for 2024. Ironically, I worked with exceptional results this year, yes a noticeable difference over the years before. This was my mistake. Make no mistake, I'm getting that raise one way or another. Quiet quitting or otherwise. When you only have to deliver deliverables, so long as the keyboard and mouse is moving, who's to say it doesn't take an additional week or two due to unforeseen circumstances. Makes no difference whether in office or at home.
