Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

If you were to magically become CEO tomorrow what would you attempt to change keeping in mind current pressing issues?

Sup guys, so I was procrastinating instead of working per usual and my mind wandered off to what I would do if by some miracle I would become president/CEO tomorrow, like what type of rule I would instill what kind of culture I would form especially in the light of current problems we're facing.

I know of course that stuff like this doesn't magically happen over night but in a what if scenario where you had the power to change things at Nike what would you do?

Mandatory HR training for all leaders, tracked, annually.

Actually anonymous Survey of each department on the ethics of the leadership team. Fall below the line, receive a 3rd party assessment of pay, promotion, and org health of the org - results public to all, hand delivered to all Net and Board.

Create real, visible talent pipeline, with defined measurements to be in that pipeline; focus on building real diversity into it. No more boys (or girls) club crap.

I would create an employee committee to sit on HR issues to evaluate fairness.

I would give employee discounts on SNKRS. TE was always the guy that didn’t want to give employees access or discounts on hot product. Easy to do when you get everything you want. I doubt digital continues to run in its own. Also protected by TE. I am sure JS will s--- that org in ASAP.

I'd bring back the cubicles, giving each and every employee "their own personal space".

I'd bring back the longtime employees that contributed to the Company they'd known and loved for so many years, and had hope to continue doing so before they got axed in layoffs.

I wouldn't even think of ending PTO as we know it going to unlimited PTO until Managers were in place that actually knew how to manage...and even then, that most likely wouldn't happen. Dedicated employees need to be recognized, and their time spent dedictated to the company should be met with PTO to match their tenure.

I would make it a democracy so that all the employees would be happy and the company would run like a Swiss watch just like the democracy in Washington DC. Zero policy conflicts, no operating debt. What could be better?

I'd introduce meritocracy. Who you know and who you eat lunch with would be less important.

I would make it so that the CEO can not make more than 10% more than the lowest paid employee...these leaders have a level of f--- you money that contributes to the crummy behavior

I’d stop with the overly scripted comms with no details. You wanna stop the problem? Really? The first thing to do it acknowledge it. Call it out. Stop with vague references and generic bs.

Great, there’s an email address. Who does it go to because HR is awful and ER is even worse. Don’t just pretend to be fixing things, the appearance of fixing them. Actually fix the problems.

I'd probably keep cleaning house at the senior leadership level ... no matter how often they tell us "culture starts with all of you", the truth is that the tone is set by the leaders. It's easier said than done, but I'd also find a way to truly incentivize teamwork, rather than promoting and rewarding the backstabbing, empire-building, selfish behavior that comes along with leaders who are trying to claw their own way to the top. Their numbers may be dwindling, but there really are some amazing, talented people at Nike, especially at the grunt levels, who embrace the culture that the company says they want -- find these people and put them in charge.
