Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Future of status collectors

What do you folks think laid off status collectors from Qualcomm will end up doing in the future ?

  1. status collect somewhere else
  2. complain and do some real work
  3. start some awesome companies and deliver value
  4. switch to full time on their side gigs like real estate or property management
  5. wait it out and boomerang back to Qualcomm

My bet is on 2. What do you folks think ?

@1sus+1oDpZZuq I moved out of Q after a 2 year stint pre-pandemic. Life is to short to put up with toxic culture. There are lots of companies which are better if you are in a growing market.

@1rtg+1oDpZZuq attrition rate in tech companies is pretty high. What made you stay in Q or the same team of you hated it? Most of us who wanted to move have on without being bitter. Contrary to what bitter employees say, most ex-Q find very good roles. Even meatier ones with all the SOC experience. (Now is a little tough. But tough for everyone)

@1aub+1oDpZZuq where do you think the engineers learn that from from ? There managers, directors and other status collectors.

QC culture created by status collectors and old boys club is just plain toxic.

"company that is bloated beyond recognition, like a beached whale" ... Caused by leeches and other 🪱 from within, AKA what is called the "old boys club" and status collectors.

@1bhb+1oDpZZuq vitriol seems to be not just against status collectors. It's towards any one that's not yourself! That's the venom in Q engineers. And they start infecting other companies when they move on (a few bad apples rather but they all hang on in this website).

To me, the problem today isn't the status collectors. It's the "Old F@rt Boys Club" of useless middle managers that have been at Q for 25-35 years surviving one failed project after another, the grey ceiling. Their skills are long gone, and like vampires they live off the blood of the young ones coming in, hoping to look relevant. They're just counting the days to retirement.

On the other hand -- today's status collectors are tomorrow's grey leeches.

I don't know what it would take to get GOOD people as managers. It takes someone at the very very top who would/could care about not only the quality of the company product, but the quality of the company employees. Those 2 are NOT the same thing. Maybe in a company that is bloated beyond recognition, like a beached whale, there is no hope.

RIP the Q I thought it was or could be.

@1fae+1oDpZZuq all the vitriol towards status collectors is a consequence of fire they treat Junior engineers. Karma is a bi--h

Bigger joke is that the jack as--s on this forum think they have all the layoff decisions. They are not engineers. They are the Bob's!

  1. Status collectors are oxygen for qualcomm in fact it's very essence. company will suffocate and die without them so will realize their folly and rehire. Proof : every status collector who got laid off in prior layoffs is now back at a higher title than earlier.
