Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Folks please stay level headed during these times.

I'm just after reading a post on slack in the bc unofficial channel where someone quit their job due to uncertainty caused by broadcom, from what i understood I think there were other factors too but point stands that the broadcom acquisition is pushing some people over the edge. Just want to say try to be level headed as much as possible during these times, its not certain when the deal will go through but try to stay on the company payroll as long as you can guys. Don't worry about what you can't control, keep moving onwards and take care of your mental health.

And next time people have 1.5 years to find another job because a toxic PE firm is taking over, what will all the super stressed out people do ?

For those saying "no need to stress" you have no clue what some folks are going through mentally. This sh!t show is taking a mental toll on some. Imagine you not given a letter, don't know where your future income will be coming from. You waiting on buying a car or home and have been waiting for a few months expecting to get clarity by end of Oct. You missed the opportunity to put in a contract for the home your family liked or the deal on the car you need bc u don't know if you will be employed next month. Leadership have abandoned us except for RR email saying to focus on ending the quarter strong. There is only so much you can take before saying sc--w the severance, bonus and whatever else is promised and move on to secure financial security for your family and get away from the mental impact this is causing. VMW have failed their employees that have carried this company to make it one of the best companies in the world.

Make a choice, don't follow channels and don't watch this toxic forum. Tune out of the BS and focus on your day to day.

I think that individual leaving will be one of many.

I really hope that they open the severance offer again, because I am ready to take the check and get the F out of here asap. These people are treating us criminally.

"Don't worry about what you can't control, keep moving onwards and take care of your mental health."

Here's my interpretation of moving forward: we are people with feelings and legitimate concerns about this acquisition. We're not sheep or cattle to be pushed and poked by Hock Tan, Michael Dell, or others.

We need to feel valued, and the best way I can think of right now is to leave VMW and/or AVGO as soon as possible. This environment is not conducive to good health and mental well-being.

Honestly I think they need to shut that Slack channel down - for everyone's own good.

I have been far less stressed out since I left it last week.

The panic caused here is much more palatable given we don’t need to filter through dog photos. Viva Layoff.com!

Stress creating more stress. Employees focusing a lot of attention on the Unofficial Slack room, seeing everyone else panic about layoffs. Then come to Blind or Layoff and see the same panic. It's easy to see some people unable to cope with that and just getting out any way they can. It's also unfortunate, as we have a lot of people in the company who enjoy creating stress.

If it was harming them from a mental standpoint, its not worth it. Good for them.

No need to stress, there will be no aquisition. The deal will fall through as time passes. They can only run a company going through an aquisition for so long before shareholders sue

If your answer to the interview question is to talk about your loyalty, etc. then you have identified yourself as having a maintance mindset and not an innovator's mindset. You are perfect for VMware as you maintain their legacy products, but you are not ideal for a company that is innovating. Innovators get out and find something exciting to work on.

“Imagine that you are in an interview in the future and they ask, "with all of the turmoil and uncertainty at VMware during the drawn out acquistion attempt, why did you stay, couldn't you find a better situation?"”

I think the opposite is true - and what makes you think things are better elsewhere.
Sticking around does not make you weak or inferior. Staying, and continue to work with ethics and professionally, taking pride in one’s work, It demonstrates resilience, openness to change, loyalty and a belief in the future. Don’t run away from problems, can deal with uncertainty etc.
Everyone has their own reasons for doing these things. You may choose a different path, but it doesn’t make you better, just different.

That’s an easy question to answer. “I’m a loyal employee and strong team mate. I do not shirk turmoil, but view it as an opportunity to shine. Unfortunately, the Executive team appeared to have mismanaged the situation, and I was inspired to interview with you today to see how I might help you gain market share, and be an asset to your company’s culture”

About that post, I don't think they enjoyed their whole experience in VMW at all, I guess it happens sometimes.
It was probably best for him to have left.....

I saw the post too, baffled me but very sad at the same time.
People should remember with change comes opportunity and rejection can just be a re-direction.

Many people quit their jobs and went elsewhere in the last 18 months - we've all had the option to do that if we were that bothered...
