Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

They will write case studies about OXY's fall

I don’t think it is so much that a bunch of employees want oxy to fail, but rather most employees feel disenfranchised by an EC that would go around shareholders and do whatever they want.

Even if it meant collateral damage to the employees who didn’t have a say in the matter.

They will write case studies about corporate greed ruining oxy for years to come.

"Oxy is the new Enron"?? It's so easy to make accusations with no evidence. Oh, but wait. "where there is smoke, there is fire". Case solved. The keystone cops solved another one with their bare hands.

That you claim. Bad business decisions will suffice.

Sounds like an exciting read. I see a best seller and movie deal in the future. Can't wait.

I have considered writing one myself on the HR side of the acquisition / aftermath. Just the treatment of an acquisition on how Oxy viewed and communicated to its people. Horrendous.

@1abu+15Ic9tsK again, OPEC power is daddy taking away the amex for the weekend. The rest of the time, they let you f— around consequence free.

OPEC periodically gives a reminder of what happens when oil meets the free market. The rest of the time, poor decision making is on uncle Saudis dime.

In response to MTC, I used to drive a Modus Operandi, and found that although it handled OK, it got terrible gas mileage. Just sayin.

Two things;

  1. Most people have pretty good memories.
  1. I forget #2.

Sometimes people forget OPEC's power – even when OPEC exerted its power just 5 years prior to the APC deal.

Not everyone has such great long-term memory.

The whole shale revolution will be studied with Oxy just being an extreme fence post in the scenery. A potential fault being limited to multiplier math of first order variables where everything just went up. Their was a lot if good putting people to work, keeping the money onshore but scaling is an issue requiring 2cnd order variables understanding slope which just tends to make most managers glassy eyed. Stay tuned, stay safe, stay positive

@1ete+15Ic9tsK OPEC is not holding anybody hostage. OPEC is the only reason piss poor management and zero capital discipline is the modus operandi in oil companies.

There is no other industry where "drill baby drill" or equivalent applies. Walmart does not build an unlimited number of cans of food knowing Target will produce less. Honda doesn't make a billion cars knowing Toyota will shut in.

Once in a blue moon, OPEC returns to a free for all, and people moan about being taken hostage. Next time, don't blindly leverage your company.

Shale companies love to crow about capitalism. Maybe time to walk the walk

Hopefully they expand on it to include the shale phenomenon in general. What's better? To lose billions or to continue being "held hostage" by OPEC and the mean, nasty foreign entities that are, by pure chance, blessed with more and better petroleum reserves than we are?

I would argue the latter is much more favorable. And we, with our raging boners for American technoprowess, need to grow up and accept that OPEC has us bested on this one. We've fought for 10 years to win this fight, and have nothing but fortunes evaporated, jobs lost, and few rich execs to show for it.
