Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

Countdown to the Great Truist Exodus

Just calling it now — once AIP drops in March, Q1–Q2 2026 is going to be a bloodbath for Truist talent. Every high performer who still cares enough to tough it out right now is probably already polishing their résumé. Between the 5-day RTO nonsense, the constant cost-cutting “initiatives” that make zero sense, and leadership’s habit of treating teammates like disposable headcount, why would anyone with real market value stick around?

It’s honestly painful watching good people get run into the ground while execs talk about “purpose” and “care” in the same breath they use to justify another round of cuts or policy rollbacks. The writing’s on the wall — once the bonus hits, the exits will light up.

Truist keeps acting like folks don’t have options. Spoiler: they do. And the ones who’ve kept the lights on are about to prove it.

@km so do the same thing as the ones around you. I’ve said it before and I will again. They can’t fire everyone!

@OP This has been said every year for years however I do believe you are correct in a big way this year.

@136 Proofreading is your friend. But yes, I’d agree with the statement—if you meant “beatings.”

This bank has never performed well. What a cluster of an organization.

@vz This is true. I guess you could take the extra step of transferring it to another account at another bank, but that’s unnecessary. Just leave respectfully and on good terms. They can’t touch your money.

@v0 once it hits your account it is yours, remember it is based on the prior year performance.

@e7 Have you ever seen them claw back a bonus if you give notice right after? Or are we safe jumping ship once the bonus hits our accounts?

Unfairly keeps coming up but everyone is treated equally based on their worth just like the clients of the bank. Premiere tier clients and above are valued higher for obvious reasons. If you're in a "10#" job grade position without a title why should you be catered to over actual producers and closers?

@km this is exactly correct. RTO is just the latest issue for people to be treated unfairly, take advantage of “accommodations”, and play truth or dare with their physical presence. For me, I don’t much care about 3 or 4 or 5 days in the office. What I care about is what is a “day”, and who’s gonna sm--k the ones coming in at 10 and leaving at 3 with no business-based reason for doing so? I can hear it now: “you’re micromanaging me and inspecting my calendar!” from the je-k who wants to make his own hours.

@k7 first off, not all RTO teammates are salty over the 5 day requirement. What they are salty about is the expectation isn't the same across the board. You would be salty too if the teammates around you get to work 1 day or 2 or leave at noon everyday. This makes teammates feel undervalued and lowers morale. But hey, leadership doesn't seem to care and if you dare ask why you will be labled as a malcontent and moved to the top of the RIF list.

RTO complainers are salty because they're expected to work as a team in an office—where exactly do they think they're going to find WFH jobs? Exodus to the unemployment line maybe—until that goes the way of SNAP. People used to feel shame for not having a job but now it's just pajama paychecks or handouts for that lot.

@gx I am going on a limb here you are a lower level manager. I have yet to see anyone at the +2 to +4 level feel the way you described.

I do appreciate your caring and compassion and your realistic view, but unfortunately I think you are in the minority here.

Manager here. Actually, we DO care about you (most of us do, anyway). We can care about you and try to run a department/team/division at the same time; they’re not mutually exclusive. But you can’t run any organization 100% on serving individual needs. Speaking for myself, I don’t WANT anyone to leave…. Replacing people is difficult and time consuming. But if this company’s policies don’t fit your needs, and you’d be happier someplace else, I’d support you in finding that place. It’s quite the opposite of not caring; it’s actually wanting the best for those who work for us. But on the other hand, if you’re going to be duplicitous and subversive and “just give the minimum” or other undermining actions I read on here, then yeah, I need you outta here b/c this place is a mess enough all by itself.

This same thing has been said every year for a variety of reasons. At the end of the day management does not care, we are just cogs in a wheel and easily replaceable. If you think you are special or unique, I have bad news for you.

Do I think Truist is a good place to work, no way; do I plan to jump ship at the next best opportunity, yes; do I plan to wait it out and get every penny from this bank, yes; can I stay here for another couple years and go into the office for 5 days, absolutely; if I had it my way would I WFH at least one day a week, most definitely.

Unfortunately I am not independently wealthy, and I need a paycheck, so I just decide which job is worth trading my time for money. When this one gets to be too much I will find another one.

All the banks are terrible and will treat you this way. You folks either have not worked elsewhere or are too young to know. It’s a dog eat dog world.

Attrition is the goal for sure. I’ve been working for 30 years and it’s the worst EL team I have ever seen. I gotta get vested in the pension and get my bonus and rsus. After that I hope I get out soon. I suggest you do the same.

If you think leadership gives a damn you are delusional. All that leave will be replaced. The bank won’t even slowdown.
