Performance Ratings…

Based on my understanding, there are five performance ratings, but it seems that “Strong” is the default for most employees, regardless of effort. Is it truly possible to achieve an “Outstanding” or “Higher” rating based solely on performance, or do other factors play a role? There seems to be very little transparency on what is required to reach the highest ratings.

completely accurate that a bad line manager will mean you can never do better than strong

it’s just absurd to me how they will promote managers who don’t understand that it’s their job to make their team look good and to do fair investigations among reported issues but it’s common enough that a few are on every floor

How much weight does your manager have in ratings or is it skip level? Seems like if your manager is not good, you have no chance given they don’t have skills to fight for you. Another reason that reporting to middle managers not suited for their job is a career ki-ler.

Very hard to get a higher, but very easy to land a lower. Just ask the new person who was there for half a ramp up year.

wael needs all the stock he can get to prepare for the imminent collapse and try to stabilize when the investors realize we have no assets

In my experience it’s easier to get Higher or Outstanding at JG3 or higher simply because senior staff have more impact and lead projects. JG4’s can definitely get H/O too in certain circumstances. JG5’s and graduates… doubtful

The elimination of PSP su-ks too.

I’m JG4 with 9 years experience and never got PSP, just Strong year after year. Complained to my manager about it and he claimed “PSP is very competitive at low JG’s and almost no 5’s get PSP”. I don’t believe that at all, but it su-ks not to even have the opportunity anymore.

At the guy/gal that got higher for 2024 and was laid off.

I got higher in 2020 and was told I was at risk as I was coming back from Christmas holidays.

I don’t think I can say anything to make you feel better because I remember being pretty angry and disappointed back then, but I want to tell you that you’ll survive and you’ll likely be fine. Hang in there.

@af+1jjw0cfpa This might have been true during BVB term. Strong being the default is no longer the case. Starting this year managers have a forced low rating quota they need to meet and you know they won’t care if good performers get tangled in the weeds. ‘Strong’ has now become ‘outstanding’ what a slap in the face

I got a Higher for 2024 and the company is laying me off and rejected me for the 15-20 roles I applied to.

Marketing is required to reach higher levels since multiple levels of management must align to allow you to be one of the few picked for a higher or outstanding

How well your peers do is also a factor. It’s easier to get higher in a worse team since that sets the bar.

You can call it “favoritism” as many do, but the fact is that part of being an active participant in your career is selling yourself and your achievements to your leadership. You can’t seriously expect them to know every win in every project on their own.

This is on top of delivering on your GPA and having goals which align with the businesses goals of course. That should be a given.
