Thread regarding Toronto-Dominion Bank layoffs

TD Bank moving to 4 days a week in office

I think everybody has heard the news by now that TD is bringing everyone back to the office four days a week starting this fall. Leaders in October, everyone else by early November. Apparently it's about “effective collaboration,” but no real explanation beyond that.

It seems like they're just following the other big banks. Most of us have been doing just fine remotely, and now we’re expected to change everything without much notice or flexibility.

People on my team are already talking about whether it’s worth staying. Not everyone can (or wants to) commute four days a week just to sit in meetings that could be remote anyway.

I think this is a huge mistake.

RTO has been used by other ineffective CEOs and companies siting company culture, more efficiency and the almighty best lie collaboration. It’s all a cowardly way to thin the heard. Next will be tracking your work and mandatory 9 hrs a day in the office. They don’t want you as an employee.

@2tw Thanks for sharing. Refreshing to see a story about a CEO who can think for himself and treats his staff as adults . If only we had some way to anonymously share this link with Vlad and Ray so they can see what good leadership looks like.

Where I work we have no parking. There is alternative parking on-top of a giant hill which I physically cannot walk up or down due to a chronic Injury in my left leg. Even with a handi placard I can't get one of those spots as it is. I arrive to work 40 mins early every day and drive around the parking lots until I find a place to park. I work a later shift so I have to wait until someone goes on an early lunch. I don't know what I'm going to do. :(

This is what a Leader Looks Like:

Banking CEO breaks from the pack on return to office. He goes in 4 days a week but leaves the rest up to the ‘adults’ he works with...

Don’t fool yourself as they can see from the logs when you
swiped your access card and when you logged on/off TD network.

@e4 Vlad does know that faang companies provide a free ride, food includes all, high pay/bonus and profit sharing
Ray made a huge mistake to onboard this guy is very rude and doesn’t even know that banks facilities are fully capable to operate
All he had to do is to stop the bank to be down graded looks like he is not capable to do that

@11n Anzea needs to seek opportunity elsewhere. She is clearly ineffective as a leader and hasn't done a thing to reassure regulators, instead her lackies fail to convey information accurately and we end up with MRAs.

Very confusing meeting with our SM. He flat out told us there is no room in London thru to the GTA for bringing back all staff 4 days a week. He also told us there is no way to monitor when someone leaves so as long as you work the bank core hours 10-2pm, feel free to come in at 10 and leave at 2.

No more offering of REMOTE only when hiring.

It is very shortsighted and poorly communicated. Vlad should stick to parroting MBA cliches and stop trying to sell this with bad references. When he referred to Amazon it is clear that he has yet to understand TD and banking. I also found it ironic that while the message was be reiterated in all hands calls, it was clear the messengers were not even in the office themselves which came across as hypocritical. It is disappointing too that Raymond is acting like a follower not a leader and allowing this circus to continue.

@b8 Everyone needs to show up on day 1 and overwhelm management. Will look so good on them and I really hope that it does happen that it makes the media.

@d6 Ray unfortunately is not working for the overwhelmed and unhappy staff. He is working for the shareholders. Ray is just towing the line of our banks and will never fit into Ed Clark's shoes

For a bank that is short staffed and trying hard to hire good talent, this is exactly how you ki-l any chance of that happening, and lose your good talent.

I agree it's a big mistake and I am very disappointed in Ray Chun. Rather than being a true leader who embodies TD culture by reinstating the Ed Clark-style flex place arrangements that were in place for 2 decades prior to covid, he just copies the 4 days RTO that the other banks are doing. This was his chance to differentiate himself from the other banks and Ray blew it.

I agree. Almost 6 years working from home and 90 days notice to adjust and return to office. How are they going to do that after eliminating buildings and not near enough desks for everyone to return?! Unless we work elbow to elbow with everyone on top of each other like sardines.
