Thread regarding Solventum layoffs

Does this place feel like it’s setting up for another round of cuts?

@39n amen! Enjoy it.

Don't update your LinkedIn or accept/send invites to anyone at your new gig. Loose lips sink ships. Keep to yourself until you leave Solventum...

Two meetings at once? Oh no I had Internet issues I'm so sorry!

@305 he-l yeah. Enjoy that extra cash.

Keep doing enough to not get fired....I bet you can make it almost a year.

The hardest will be having to be on two meetings at once....my advice is two pairs of headphones and always be on mute by default.

I've been out for 1.5 years, and already with my current company for 9 months. The work is so much more fulfilling and there is purpose. Shame that BH destroyed 3M Healthcare through mismanagement.

@11a

Get your new job and keep working here ...use your sick time and floating holidays but not your vacation time.

They won't pay out your sick or floating holidays if you leave...

The hardest part currently is there are so many smart, hardworking, good people that are wanting this to work. So we are hanging on and hoping for change. Unfortunately they are bleeding us dry with quota, cars, and bodies. EVERYONE is maxed out. Leadership knows it but they don't seem to care. Tiny “patch work” to make it seem like things are changing and they understand when really it’s all the same. For the amount of time and stress everyone is taking on there will be many more exits. People are finally saying enough is enough. Thats saying something on this current market. I know at least 5 reps staying home way more due to losing so much money on their gas alone. Between that and 75% of the field not getting commission checks they are doing this to themselves. BH, HK, DJ…. Everyone WAKE UP! Give us a fighting chance instead of pushing this “preferred work place” cheer and making people fake it. We want to do this. Help us help patients!

@kb I did, retired March 1.
And that was probably a good thing.
I worked for medical for 30 years and automotive for 10 so time to go.

@ke Agree with this. Could not believe that at the Town Hall last week Bryan said out loud that he underestimated the degree to which Solventum was wrapped up with 3M. Isn't that basically the key thing a CEO who brags about how great he is with spin-offs should understand regarding how to decouple one company from another?

He also said the fundamental confusion between he and Trian is they thought 3M Healthcare was a healthy company, but in fact it had decreasing volumes and negative margin growth (and thus Trian expects too much).

But this is a fun diddy from pre-spin SEC filings (Mar 2024):

"We believe Solventum is a proven global leader in large, diverse and growing markets with a wide portfolio of strong, reputable brands and long-standing customer relationships. We believe that our technology platforms and innovation expertise, our leading digital and data science capabilities and business models, supported by our global scale and reach and strong manufacturing expertise, will position us for continued growth and value creation. With our cash flow generation capability and attractive margins, we believe we will be able to reduce leverage, reinvest in our business, accelerate growth through M&A over time, and return capital to shareholders."

Funny that it had attractive margins before the spin, but now he remembers it had garbage margins.

There's been a small amount of cuts every few months rotating in different areas as part of their "transform for the future" initiative. This isn't going to change but I don't think they're going to do a big layoff since these small ones aren't in the media.

They aren’t smart enough to know that’s what’s going to happen. There will be a reckoning of all the layers and big positions they’ve added. This coupled with low growth and high spending will force them into having to cut costs. I think they all thought it would be easy and they are that good. Turns out no and no.

@a9 F this place! It’s so depressing being here! It’s all smoke and mirrors…. I’m interviewing and need stability for my family

There’s no travel right now, except for execs and Nova. Wave 2 is a mess, so it’s costing us and Wave 3 was always going a harder lift. The more $ Nova costs, the more costs have to be cut. Don’t be fooled by Kathy’s speech today. Of course they are looking for people to cut.

Not really any more than it always does. Though as you're asking, it would probably help to share more details. What "setting up" are you seeing that led you to ask?
