Thread regarding Walgreens layoffs

Performance Reviews

Myself in multiple colleagues across the organization have had their performance review numbers brought down from 3.5s to 2.9. We have been advised that these decisions are being made from upper management.

I’d like to also advise none of us in our history with wag have ever received anything other than a 3.5 or above.

Anyone else having their numbers brought down? Or believe this is a just a tactic by Sycamore to prevent employees from getting any merit raise at all?

@42s I was impacted by this. Was severely down rated despite achieving all goals. HR was useless. Suffered the 50% multiplier. I would join a class action. But don’t know how we identify each other to band together.

@37y the attorney you’re in contact with is an id--t. Read you offer letter. They can adjust bonuses, give bonuses, take away bonuses, etc however they want.

This 100% true, I have been in contact with a attorney and they do think we have not only a case but likely class action since this moved everyone from 80%-100% bonus to 50%. If you are interested in joining anonymously for now comment here.

@mc that isn’t necessarily true. I fought for and saw others fight when the group wanted to lower someone’s score unfairly. Sometimes you get overruled in the room by higher ups that just want people gone. It’s a horrible system. You walk out feeling disgusting and powerless.

@155+1k8p0a5e1 don’t make a joke. No one worked here. When Neal was here we all had fun. He was very funny, and he never had expectations from us. Look how he is doing the same in Best Buy! He had fun trip to India, everyone is happy there. I hope I can join his team again, hope he won’t only bring Eric R and his friends there, hope he can bring us there too. Anyway be happy, not only we didn’t work, now we have good bonus too. We have beautiful here, don’t ruin it, please

@fe When Neal was here, he and his friends partied and had fun. The rest of us in IT worked our rear ends off. We did not get invited to any parties.

@106 We don't know the criteria that will be used to get rid of people but lowering performance ratings would be a start. Given the shady stuff Walgreens has pulled in the past, this would be par for the course. That said, Sycamore will most likely get rid of the long-term (higher paid) employees first, regardless of performance rating.

@105 this will not happen. They don’t just cut people with a partially achieving rating on the performance evaluation. They cut a completely random mix of team members.

@wk Does anybody know which month they will let go the employees with 2.9 score?

@jc this happened to me. I had a 4.0 within my direct leadership/team [with verifiable positive contribution metrics]. After calibration at the Group VP level I ended with a 2.9 and 50% multiplier. It’s clear that actual performance doesn’t matter. They need to reduce headcount by any means necessary. Like most, I’m actively working to get out.

If you’re in the 2.9 range you will be laid off. Start looking now. They artificially push people down to limit raises, yes, but below 3.0 will all be gone soon.

@mc not necessarily. It’s called calibration. A manager can give a direct report a rating and then it has to get approved by upper management. When this occurs they look at other individuals in the role and use a sort of the curve. I have seen ratings go down.

If your boss is telling you that upper management is changing 3.5 to 2.9 they are lying to you. Your boss did it and doesn’t want you to think they are a bad person.

Anyone with a rating of 2.9 or less are supposed to get laid off in Jan, but we’ll see.

@j4 Someone on my team received a 2.9 and the individual multiplier was 50%. Very painful given that it was a forced score adjustment based on the stacked rank curve.

Can anyone with lower than a 3 rating share what the individual multiplier was on their bonus?

@ee there you are again. I come here just to laugh at you. I can’t wait until my bonus comes Tuesday. I wonder what you’ll be doing? I’m sure if I stop by here I’ll read something bitter and poorly written from you. Can’t wait!

Also, I know you read these responses because I always see that one little down vote. I know it’s you, silly 😉😘.

@fe wtf you even talking about?

I think whatever part of the org you’re in you had that benefit of doing nothing. But there has always been nonstop work in my area.

Most of you didn’t work for few years, everyone knows there were no work to do. When Neal was there, everyone had fun, all those partying, what’s up sessions. Be fair, you are being paid to do nothing. Why do you always complain. Do your best to be fair. This is the reason you are still there, because you don’t work, and have a great life

@aw

This calibration occurs in many large organizations, however maybe a little more planned. At the beginning of the year the rules and expectation are set. Such as only 3% of employees will get the top rating. Then it becomes the executives and directors advocating for their people throughout the year and then horse trading when final reviews are upcoming. Your rating is set before any of your selfassement occurs.

@ee Which is sadder? Trying your best to hang on until something better presents itself or hanging around a blog regarding what I'm guessing is a former employer and belittling people.

Yet you all stay at Walgreens and will never leave...how sad is that. Why even waste your time about complaining about what scores you get, you will just keep letting them do whatever they want to you..you will never leave. double sad

@OP YES!!!! I got a 2.9 even though I have NEVER had such a low rating in my life!!! I was very upset but my manager would not listen to anything I said to defend myself. I am so glad to hear that other people are being rated unusually low as well. I was very shocked and insulted by my low rating.

@OP Are they going to pay bonus, if any, to employees with score 2.9?

People managers rate their direct reports and upper management via calibration forces totally different scores based on nothing but a curve. It’s a terrible process and a top heavy decision.

@aa we have the grounds. I had a friend who got their review and didn’t get their raise from FY23 review until summer 2024 and didn’t get back pay.

@OP This happened to me. Was downrated, although I achieved all goals in a difficult year and have always been rated 3.5+, I filed the complaint with HR, only to have it circle back to my manager (who understood I was escalating to HR). So there doesn't seem to be an internal solution for employees I wonder if they understand that any of us filing a lawsuit could get expensive for them.

The way my manager explained it is, if you have 3 people in your team, 1 person will exceed, 1 will meet and 1 will under perform. They have to rate the folks this way, idk how much truth this holds though. Kinda sounds like SG is forcing people to give lower ratings.

They did something similar last year so wouldn’t say it’s a Sycamore thing. People who were at 3’s by their people managers ended up getting changed and brought down
