I'd like to determine if I'm being underpaid, but I've been hitting a wall when I try to bring up the subject of pay.

If you want to know just ask because some will tell you the truth. It is not against the rules to talk about pay. Exxon doesn't like it because there are some pretty wide bands between similar employees. One employee learned that a new hire made amost as much as him. The employee had been at exxon for 5 years ad the newbie just waltzed in and made almost as much as the tenured employee. The tenured employee went to the manager and demanded a 20 percent raise. He was asked how he knew the employees pay and told the manager the newbie left his pay stub on the copy machine. The manager told the employee he should have not looked at the pay stub and it was none of his business. The tenured employee did not get a raise and his behavior declined. He eventually told the manager to stick the job up his a-s and left. He stayed on the payroll for several weeks until he was let go for job abandonment. So you can see why pay is taboo. There large differences between upstream and downstream salaries.
@2bw That's what culture of XOM demands
CL28 $325k
I don’t really talk to my coworkers. I don’t even ask them what they did over the weekend. I don’t want to know.

People talk and I listen. Some love to gloat about how much they make. How do you compare to them?
Is big b baytown? If that's the pay its sheet. I dont know how they get people to work at baytown. It is a true cesspool of human waste. I have met the nicest, most competent, competitive individuals there not!!. It is the worst places to work at.
@100 new hires at BIG Bs engineer at CL22-23 is $112k-115k
I left at CL 24 making 170k per year. Upstream. My old co worker made 210k at cl25. Downstream pays shi et. I knew a guy who retired at cl23 making 120k Downstream. New hires at downstream are paid way less than Upstream. Upstream hire 100k downstream 80 k. Upstream engineer starts cl 25 180k downstream cl24 or 25 130k. Downstream is sheet. I hope this helps you. Whatever you are paid it us not worth the mental anguish of work at such a toxic place. I left asap and the others retired asap.
It is not wise to discuss salary with peers. Even titles have changed significantly so that it becomes very difficult to tell what a person's CL rank is.
Some companies allow you to ask and receive the salary band of your current and next level of compensation.
Just asked ChatGPT; it will pull all the relevant data of people posting what they make and will give you a rough idea of what salary bands look like for each CL. This data is out there on this site and blind.
@b1 only a person with a micro pe--s would make a comment like that.
If your thinking your underpaid most likely you are. Don’t talk to any CX regulars you may blow a gasket.
@OP I’m open about what I make.
Yes, also compare di-k sizes. I’m pretty big, so might make a few jealous
I tell people my CL, assessment bucket, and pay. Usually if you tell them they will open up.
Hunger games here. Don’t trust anyone.
Speaks volumes about the culture here.
