The official word circulating internally was 11%. That number is just full time direct employees. The "real" number including full-time contractors in Palo Alto and offshore is 20%. So a few hundred to several hundred people lost their jobs yesterday.
FWIW, typical best practice for this kind of thing is you do one big cut and then assure everyone that the cuts are done and they can stop worrying about it and focus on their jobs... but that doesn't mean the same thing won't happen again next year. But who knows how Vista works -- and how Murray will implement it.
I'd say that if you're still on board, you're probably safe for 6-12 months. Just make sure you're doing something that's vital to profitability. If you're not, you really should be looking for a new job.
it HAS indeed started. not sure about other groups, but mine got cut about 20% Does anyone know if this is a one time thing???? Or will they continue to pick us off one by one?
