I am interested in understanding the rationale for sticking around with all of this uncertainty

To continue getting a check and paying the bills. For many of us this is not our primary job or sole source of income. Every penny counts in this economy.
55092- LMAO! I left (a long time ago) because I hate Kool-aid! I did not want to be on the bow as the ship sinks!
I'm staying as I put my soul up for sale and CCi outbid Satan.
I am staying because they are spectacular AND real!
I am staying because this experience is giving me great material for my book.
I don't fault anyone for staying. Looking for a new job sucks! I've done it.....I hate it. I'd stay at CCI until the wheels fall off but I would keep my options open.
043 - so the job offered zero pay ?
Just kidding ......
I'm staying because I worked my way up...and the comparable position at a community college I was offered paid 30,000 less.
I'm staying because I haven't found a new job.
I'm staying so I can hear about how I don't smile and dial enough.
I am staying because I like the work I do, the people I work with and the pay is good. That being said I have gone on interviews to see what is out there and to practice interviewing. Lots of jobs out there for my field of IT and I can stay here and better myself with the technology.
I am choosing to stay at Heald because I believe in what we are doing and I choose to believe that we will survive this!
Out of all the replies I see one that answered the OP's question. All the others are just trying to bash employees that stuck it out. It's just people voicing their opinions about others. Like the saying goes, opinions are like assholes, everybody has one.
@994. Have you ever tried to find a full-time teaching job at a real college? It is extremely difficult. CCI schools are what we call "schools of last resort," and this is true of students and teachers. I'm constantly looking to move on, but full-time faculty jobs at respectable (no for-profit crap!) are not exactly falling from the sky. I'm waiting to get laid-off so I can collect unemployment and reassess my career.
I am staying because I have faith. Some of you will call me a fool, but I believe in the education Heald College delivers to students. If the leaders of the college don't act with courage during times of uncertainty, we prove true all the things said of us in the media. I am staying as an act of defiance.
It's not that simple. Longtime instructors, regardless of their ethnicity, or in the code of 974, "relateableness,"have not established other skills or connections to people outside the field. Job search and career advancement is as much about networking (who you know) as anything else. What's more, they probably don't know how to express their transferable skills to other potential employers. I have a friend with a teaching credential who decided to get out of teaching, and was unable to present the fact that she could train people. That's got to be even more true for people who went into teaching, but don't have credentials. It's about skills, connections, and presentation.
974 is only half right. Those are those that are 'relatable' to students, but there are also those that 'fit in' with CCi's culture of self-promotion at the expense of others. These are true Machiavellians who hold higher job titles and possess moralities raging from reptilian to parasitic. This is why the ECMC deal is such a farce. Different dirty river, same leaches.
Damn! As much as I want to curse out 974 for what he/she said I do have to agree with some of what they said. I agree with the finding blacks to basically come in and get blacks or minorities to sign up for a crap education that's based on nothing but greed. I DO NOT agree saying that those people are not intelligent. How do you know what their intelligence level is? Are you in HR and have access to their background info? Why make a blanket statement that they are not intelligent and the intelligent ones are gone? Let me guess.....you say that because you consider yourself intelligent so you left.......GTFOH with that!
974, thanks for sharing your opinion with us.
Because what's left at CCI is the quintessential CCI employee: Probably minority, hired exclusively to "relate" to the CCI student base of minority, single mother welfare lifers. CCI developed a business that is specifically designed to find as many of these people to sign up for financial aid as possible. Therefore, CCI hires people who are "relatable" to the student demographic. CCI paid these people FAR more than their skill set can can get anywhere else because for a long time, the money flowed in. If you want to be honest with yourselves (especially if you are an online employee), just look around and see who remains today. The remaining folk know that to go anywhere else will equal a large pay cut, so they simply stay put and hope for the best. All the intelligent people left already, only the quintessential CCI remain.
