Instructor rankings

What exactly are 'instructor rankings' in the Comp Sci online dept? RT is requiring this from PLs. Is it based on actual teaching or on outreach, retention, failure rates (most of which are out of instructor control)?

957 and 954: If ECMC maintains enrollment contract language about mandatory arbitration (i.e. the student cannot take legal action in any dispute with the college), it won't matter if you give the buggers a grade of F. Just send them back to admissions for re entry and we'll get them repacked in financial aid at double the interest rate on a new loan. You will get another chance to give the student an A. See? It's a win/win for operations and faculty!

54954: How right you are - I have LITERALLY been told that! A variation is "you might not realize it, but you actually just gave YOURSELF an F as a teacher." I wonder if it's possible to keep up that kind of bullshit and still be a non-profit. Or does it not matter? It seems like there should be some standards inherent in having a tax-exempt status, but then you hear about a lot of shady charities that are tax-exempt, so who knows.

"If you give a student an 'F' it means that you failed them as a teacher." "No, if I give a student an 'F' it means that the lazy little bugger earned a goddamned 'F' you asshole!" (don't try this at Everest)

Plus giving out higher grades results in less outreach. Entering all A grades for anything students submit saves you time and you don't have to attempt outreach for them, saving you even more time. A win-win for all. You give both students and CCI what they want. And no one bothers you to improve on anything.

Teaching is not part of a CCI instructor's job description. You are ranked on your ability to beg adult students to attend class. You are also ranked on whether you give a 100% for discussion posts and assignments that would typically earn a 0% at a real school. If you give a 100%, you rank as an excellent CCI instructor.

OP - Here's another clue...CCi does not consider retention or failure rates to be out of the control of instructors. You're the one giving them the grade.

Not on teaching. ONLY on babysitting abilities..how many butts you keep in classes. Fail too many and CAO will villify you with an improvement plan. If you give all As, then you rank at the top.939

OP - Seriously, what would your guess be? Are you new at Everest? If not, I'm sorry but the powers that be make it very clear what they value in and expect from instructors. A highly ranked instructor does whatever it takes (even if somewhat ethically questionable) to keep students technically attending through the 60% point of the term. That way, we get to keep all of their aid money. It's like Admissions. Legally, they can't be paid for enrollments or fired for having low numbers, but the company just made up a bunch of fake, vague-sounding criteria to base their reviews on. Everyone knows Admissions promotions, firings, etc are all still based on numbers enrolled. It's a business, not a charity.
