I have read so many complaints from the instructors here about student quality and having to do outreach. Instructors need to realize that CCI (and zenith) are not real schools. They are businesses who disguise themselves as schools to get title IV money. The reason why you have sub humans as students is because that is the business model. It is about QUANITY, not quality. Enrollment is paid to bring in anything. These students are not expected to be good. Therefore, instructor situation will never be better. And to think that you are at all valued by the school is a laugh. I think it is wrong, but then again, I went to the Feds with my documentation. Now CCI is being shut down. Quit complaining and go work at a public school and teach kids.

Everyone upset by OP needs to look in the mirror and see why they are. CCI is a shithole, ran by shit, that employs shit.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Godwin's law applies here.
661... Many thanks for insulting me and my family. Obviously you must be one of those superior breed of people kinda like Hitler was.
The OP is right on the money. I am not shocked by the "reaction" of some of the posters regarding it. Look around what you work with and you will just see "folk dat can relate" to the CCI students. CCI specializes in enrolling welfare queens, the illiterate, career criminals, and the run of the mill anti-social. Just because lots of CCi's employees families (and also themselves) fall into these categories, it doesn't make it any less true. But hey, we are also talking about the people who think zenith is a savior.
619 - Stiffer entrance requirement will certainly increase the quality of the student population, but will also dramatically reduce the size of the population to the point that some campuses - or all - will be unable to stay afloat. There are too many career schools competing for too few quality students. Raising standards is a worthy - if unrealistic - expectation. I am waiting to see how new leadership addresses this conundrum.....
66634: I was referring to the posters on this thread who are claiming to be instructors, and who are obviously not. And yes, I am being 100% honest in regard to the quality of my students. If you are teaching an "Intro" class to students in their first term, you are dealing with a lot of people who will not progress to a second term. The level of unpreparedness you're seeing is common at many colleges, not just Everest, and is a product of our declining public school system. Instructors cannnot, and should not be expected to, get students up-to-date on the past 12 years of their education, in just 12 weeks. Stiffer entry requirements are definitely in order, or we are going to continue to be blamed for their poor outcomes.
619, what class do you teach? I have over 100 students and they too amaze me, but not in a good way. I may have only 20% of the students doing the work and in some cases less. I wish I had the students that you describe. I would love to have students that write sentences like the posters on this board. At least I would be able to understand what is written. I speak to quite a few instructors and I do not know of any who insult students. They do, however tell the truth about the lack of preparedness for post secondary education as well as the deficiencies that students have when it comes to reading, writing and comprehension, but no insults. As for bragging about big paychecks, I have not heard that either. The checks are not even close to the industry standard of pay for adjunct instructors nor full time instructors. The instructor pay is actually quite mediocre compare to the industry standard and to top it off, there is an unmentionable amount of administrative work, non-instructional work, and unnecessary micromanagement to accompany the meager wages. It sounds to me that you may have been conversing with non-instructors as opposed to actual instructors.
Enough said...
This is utter B.S. I have over a hundred students, and they amaze me every day with the quality of work they do. The people bashing our students most likely work in the call centers at CCI, and they deal with the 20% of students who aren't successful, either because they had a poor public school education and are struggling with college work, or because they just don't want to do the work. Easily 80% of the students I work with are better educated, more intelligent, and most certainly better writers than the people on this board. The "teachers" who are insulting our students and bragging about big paychecks are obviously impostors who, for one reason or another, are bitter about their own fates (laid off?) and so are trying to bring down the school, the students, and the people who have been showing up, and doing the work, and carrying the rest of the (deadbeat) employees for years. Move on, bitter people. Somewhere out there, there is another call center or a fast food restaurant where you will fit right in!
The use of the phrase sub humans is way out of line, but the rest of the OP's post is spot on. The business model is to bring in large numbers of students who take out loans (paying tuition would work in this model, as well, but very few people have that kind of money lying around, and those who do have the wherewithal to attend real schools. The idea is to get large numbers paying. Students who flunk out don't pay, so the model relies on students not flunking out. It's all about paying tuition, and not about education.
Could you all just SHUT UP?
I had hoped that the reference to sub humans would prompt someone other than me to ask for this to stop, but MODS - this is appalling and you are allowing racists and perverts of the most primitive character to perpetuate their language here. Does freedom of speech require the dehumanization of students? Really? I hope you will arrange for a Shut Up instead of your current chatboard Slut Up (which happens to perpetuates your clickstream). Block me if you like, but enough is enough.
No smack required. Just pretend students are passing and give them grades. Nothing to it. The classes and the degrees are and always have been pretend anyway. Since 1995, no CCI check ever bounced on me.
It's spelled "Quantity". Or are you CCI graduate?
Anonymous66346 - He really wouldn't be a patsy then, would he? Man, I wish I had thought of that a couple years ago. In my neck of the woods it would be crystal meth, though. I could have been another Walter friggin' White!
335: Fixed it for you. "Patsies? Really? I made over $500,000.00 dealing smack at CCI on the side."
Anonymous66335: Wow, way to get all defensive! And you must have worked "on the side" (I assume you mean adjunct) for a looonnnnng time to make that at CCI. Have we even been in business that long? LOL!
Patsies? Really? I made over $500,000.00 "teaching" for CCI on the side. No real work is required. I dumped it when they started all the outreach crap because that was inconvenient and a waste of time.
66307: I concur that calling our students "sub humans" is way out of line. That being said, I've been at other colleges and taught at Everest for over five years now, and I agree with everything else the OP said. Instructors are the "patsies" as much as the recruits.
OP nailed it. If you are offended, you are probably the core CCI: ghetto scrounge, single mom, mud shark, or druggie.
"Sub humans"? Who made YOU God?
Really
Not real schools? Really?
