Look at your school, the number of students, the number of employees and you can come up with a good guess on when you will be cut or closed. With employees making 3ok to 100k how many students does it take to support your school. Now add overhead for all the support and upper level management. You get the picture, it is really a bleak looking future. If ECMC sells what assets Corthian had, they bought so cheap they can still make money. If they hang tough and try to rebuild the schools I know that the expense will outweigh the potential profits. I don't think they bought the schools to lose money or break even. Please look at your situation and do what is right for you. Unless some miracle happens, you all need to look for work. Get out while you still have a chance to avoid the unemployment line.

359 - good, nobel ideas. My concern is that there are not enough "motivated and education-ready students" to fill our classes and those of our competitors. Potential students who meet that description are more likely to be employed, and less likey to go back to school. That leaves us with a high percentage of, well, leftovers. Not sure how we get out of this rut, without a huge national recession that encourages better potential student to go back to school.
I think we'll all know how it's going to go within two months. It's not all going to change at once, but become friends with the Admissions folks. If there is any intent to turn this thing around and be an ethical company, they will see big, big changes very quickly. Nothing can change unless we (1) recruit more motivated and education-ready students, and (2) show from the very start of the college experience that we will be honest and straightforward with them.
I know that if I were an area employer, I'd have seen resumes flying in from CCi for eight months now. I'd be really hesitant to take on anyone who is still left. I'm not just being mean...I've been in planty of hiring positions and that's just how pwoplw think. The ones who got out early made the better choice. Few people outside of our industry care who CCi or Everest is. It's not the bad press that's going to cause problems (even though there've been a few local tv spots where I live that must have increased exposure). It's the idea of hiring someone who hasn't managed to get out after eight months of looking. It's the situation as the long-term unemployed face, and it sucks.
@150, all the same much better than if the plug had been pulled back in August. As it stands we may have until April. Gives us time to look into other options. Or decide to ride it out. Which ever option we have had time
100: Interesting thought. My concern is this: CCI execs seemed to know what they were doing, even though it was unethical/immoral/illegal. I dont know if ECMC has a clue, which could make for a very short, very bumpy ride followed by a screeching crash.
Sarcastic useless a hole.
OP: Many thanks for coming to my life to give me guidance and do the Math for me. I am so grateful.
Listen up 067,all I said was this was a good thread. We need communication between us because the fing low life managers either won't talk at all or lie. I didn't say anything above solving the world's problems, I said this seemed to be one of the more honest conversations we have had. So take your fing attitude and climb back into screwed up world and let normal employees communicate how we want. I bet you are some type of manager or too stupid to understand. I apologize to everyone else who is honestly trying to voice their knowledge and opinions.
Whatever the case. I still think it will be a "softer landing" with ECMC. No guarantees in life folks!
@ 060 and 063: I've worked for several organizations, some more professional than others. I've seen posts on this board that are not only unprofessional, but incredibly crude and intentionally offensive. Granted some may be non-employee trolls, but some are (or were) actual CCi employees, and that's pretty telling. Granted I only work for CCi as an adjunct instructor, and I've worked with some pretty good people with this company, but I've also been floored on a couple of occasions at the lack of professionalism of some, both on the campus and on this board. So, this board is in some ways a reflection of the culture and mentality of actual CCi people, though in an environment where they can say what they're actually thinking (no matter how revolting or off-color that may be).
But I agree, this thread has actually been positive and beneficial.
067- Do you work here? If so, when was the last time you manager had an intelligent, honest discussion with you about these subjects? When used appropriately, this board provide a forum for good discussion and, hopefully, motivates others to think and act. Do you have something useful to contribute?
Does anyone have exact numbers for enrollment for ECPO? I would be interested to see if they and Everest Online are "the most viable asset CCI has" as higher ups claimed.
060..... You're ridiculous. This is where you you go to discuss and resolve issues?
@Anonymous66060 - I am with you. But a few bad apple spoil it for us all. They come and litter our threads with junk and that's really sad. I like when we have a meaningful discussion, even if it's brief.
I like this thread. People are talking and it appears to be honest and heartfelt. This is how we are supposed to communicate and solve problems and understand issues. Good job all.
You are correct. If the total student population is 250 or less for an average size school, I guarantee it is losing money, that is why the layoffs hit us and they are replacing them with less costly employees or not filling the position at all. I know numerous ex employees who were replaced with cheaper people. The question is will ECMC continue with the practice, have enough cash to maintain the schools, or combine and close campuses.
015 - Very good point. ECMC is in for a rude awakening. 014 - Unfortunately, calibrating the student popoulation in the manner you sugest would eliminate a meaningful percentage, causing many campuses to become economically unviable. Adnissions has historically signed anyone who could fog a mirrior, and the compnay was still teetering on the brink of financial disaster.
It wasn't working as a for profit. How can anyone expect it to work in the same way as a non profit? It can't.
This is an opportunity to get rid off bad teachers and students who are here for only the VA money or they can't read or write. This is a really good exercise to calibrate both the students and employees.
001...... You are correct. Chicago campuses are done.
OP speaks the truth. There have been few if any layoffs at the campus level. Reduced enrollment coupled with attrition means a reduced need for all campus based positions. The only unknown is how many have already left voluntarilty. My sense is that once ECMC digs into the numbers and trendlines (data not generally available during pre-sale due dilligence), they will be horrified. Look for the merging of campuses in multi-campus locations and a significant RIF in all locations. For those of you who want to view ECMC as savior, I would be happy to hear logical arguements to the contrary....
If you can run the attrition detail report in Campus View. That will give you the numbers the campus is reporting. Then do your research and get the real number. They always pad the reported number to stay within budget.
Kind of disheartening when you look at it this way.
Do not forget to subtract drops and grads. The enrollment numbers are already down. We are losing way more than we are enrolling, not counting the option takers. We are so screwed.
