Thread regarding Citrix Systems Inc. layoffs

You might be unemployed but the new Raleigh office has some great coffee.

In light of the ongoing layoffs I am going to suggest that maybe just maybe that the $14k coffee machine in the new Raleigh office was not the best use of funds.

$14K for a coffee machine? at my job, we have 6 $25 mr. coffees for 300 employees and we're doing just fine. maybe our CEO should give Mr. Tesla some pointers.

This is only a first step towards a 2 campus consolidation in India & NC. Alpharetta, Fla, SB, etc. are going bye-bye.

Either way, they are enterprise machines built to handle hundreds of people. There's a lot of hype going around and this type of drivel just leads to misplaced assumptions and idiocy.

We probably have one on each floor. So for now 3 handling 600.

Again, you post ridiculous crap that has no valid tie-in to the problem. It's a reach to draw lines to facilities and coffee machines and buildings, etc. This is partly about money and partly about Citrix, despite how crappy and messed up this is, having to make a very difficult call to shift in the market. Mark in hindsight will probably regret not seeing some things coming sooner rather than later, but he was also more than likely hoping that we wouldn't get to this point. Our personnel budget is intersecting our revenue line. They're trying to get ahead of it. It's painful. Friends lost their jobs today, and it blows, but don't spread hype and drivel. Citrix has had very few serious layoffs compared to other corporations despite being acquisition driven and competing with very heavy hitters.

So we have a single coffee machine for 600 people?

A coffee maker that has to handle 600 employees all day cost that much. Also, I think your focus here is a bit misplaced.

Don't draw ridiculous correlations.

It's not unique to Raleigh-- the high-end coffee machine is standard across the Santa Barbara facilities as well. Raleigh is operated by the Citrix Online facilities people and follows their standards.

Too many managers indeed, it is very hard to do anything

When you employ 9000 employees (many high paid developers/engineers) 14K on a coffee machine is not exactly going to make or break you. Perhaps the 23 MILLION dollars spent on this office is a bigger worry. They pay for snacks and drinks for 9000 employees. This is more of a recurring expense than a one time 14K coffee machine. Then again, if they want high caliber talent, then you need have some of those google/microsoft like perks.

The issue here wasnt money spending. It was hiring frenzy and all of a sudden they realize they have too many employees. Poor management. Too many managers.
