Thread regarding Cablevision Systems Corp. layoffs

2015 Layoffs at Cablevision

Do you have any updates here, I heard that a big transformation and reorganization is coming to all IT groups and I wanted to see if this is something that is correct. I hear many rumors about layoffs also. I've been with Cablevision for almost 2 years now and I would hate to leave now

The new boss Patrick Drahi, has targeted the overpriced communications departments, both external and internal for massive layoffs in the Spring. Also the marketing deprtment will be replaced by a channel group specializing in cable marketing. The point is the company is worth more broken up than together, and that is the plan.

If you work at Cablevision, your job is already being offered to a younger person at half the pay, and they are beaming to have it. Dust off your resume, if you make six figures and work in the above mentioned departments you are all basically gone soon.

And I heard it from the top

I worked as a tech for 14 good years until I got terminated for "bad work performance" by a new manager who just didn't like me and wanted to throw his weight around. HR did next to nothing to help me out. Apparently employees have been getting let go/fired just like I was left and right over the last year from Cablevision and there's zero job security there anymore. Shame because it used to be an awesome place to work and I had so many experiences out in the field and worked with so many good people, some of whom I'm still friends with.

I don't know anything concrete, but the rumor is that Dolan wants Time Warner Cable to purchase Cablevision. It is inevitable that Cablevision is either acquired by another company or goes bankrupt. The financials are dismal, with negative equity. Look at the balance sheet and you will see that liabilities are double assets. Consider what they have to sell. There is real estate, but not much else, with no proprietary technology or products. Even though they invested heavily in wireless over the past few years, it is not a competitive advantage. Personally, if I still worked there, I would certainly be looking for a job. Get out before they just close and lock the doors.
