Thread regarding Chaparral Energy layoffs

I'm kind of in the same boat as Chaparral.

A Post By My Children (on the family layoff site) ........... The real cause of this financial crisis is poor decisions by My Father and the incompetent people he listens to like My Mother. It is unreal to think that they would invest in our home, electricity, communication bills, entertainment, retirement and education as if they would continue making the robust salaries afforded by the oil industry. It would have been much better had they invested as if their income was somewhere near the $7.25 minimum wage. Then they wouldn't be in debt to Freddie Mac, Lowe's, and Capital One Auto Finance. Sure it's nice to have straight teeth and money for sports but they should have saved instead. It's unfair for My Father to pay me to mow the lawn only to fire me and do it himself because times are tough. If only they had strived for mediocrity. Then maybe they wouldn't have had my little sister. Then the cutbacks would not effect my allowance as much. She was the last addition to the family and should be the first to go. In addition to that I feel that an aunt, uncle, grandparent, or random stranger should take over the running of this family.

Oliver North once said " before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. Then you're a mile away and have their shoes.

62685 - changes are definitely necessary, but the changes I see don't appear to be rational ones, or truly geared toward fixing the problems. The changes that are needed are to go back to the original vision of the company. Risks are fine, but risks made out of arrogance and greed are doomed to failure. That's what we're seeing now, and I see no change in that direction. It is a real shame. In fact, it is Aubreyesque!

The point is not bad personal decisions but the criticism of others and their decisions. I'm quite sure we all have mortgages, auto payments, and bills in general. I have no regrets in my financial decisions. With a loss of overtime and layoffs over the horizon changes have to be made. I was simply drawing a comparison of how a persons situation and the situation the of leaders of this company could be similar.

We have to understand that the changes that are being made are for some of us inconvenient and for others outright painful but for Chaparral as a whole they're necessary.

I agree. I don't understand how personal bad decisions are a result of corporate bad decisions.

Good point on walking a mile in someone else's shoes. However, bad business decisions are different in scope when compared to bad personal decisions. There are going to be many who get to walk in the shoes of the unemployed because of bad business decisions.
