Next month Staples will announce the closures of many SDO's across the country and in the coming months the remaining being closing before the end of the year. The savings to Staples will be millions and will help appease stockholders eager for a Office Depot merger. The era of fleet delivery and customer service is being replaced with 3rd party courier and greed. Please do not wait! Find alternatives with companies that appreciate your talents and abilities.

Houston location just got informed we are being shut down on July 17th and we are one of the bigger fleets..and my job is a driver!
Its all over but the crying.....or the sure joy of being put out of our misery
True, but having a lease expire sure helps to make the decision a little easier.
Hey..the lease has nothing to do with it. My building closed and our manager told us it was still under lease.
@60386 - thanks for the information as always, and please keep us up to speed if you hear of particular locations that have been confirmed as closing.
Who is eligible for retention bonus? Been there about 14 years
Anon60418 - up to about $1,500 for hourly people(that was for someone with 17 years,) depending on tenure.
How much is the retention bonus?
To every one...please take the SDO closures message seriously. Ours was part of the last round. You all will receive a severance and a retention bonus ... please start looking for new jobs if you think your sod is being looked at for closure.
Be prepared it's coming folks. I have been warning all readers of this forum for many months. Get your shit together now - you must trust me here. I'm one of the rare few that does care and not just on here blowing smoke up everyone's ass. I'm on several calls next week and should at least have close to a concrete listing of CC's thru Q2 that will permanently transition to courier. If you are a manager of your SDO start spreading the word. Just make sure you explicitly communicate the fact that they will get severance plus retention. Don't put yourself in a situation where your drivers jump ship! If you are manager, you know what that means for you. Be dressed to run a route for the next 2-3 months. Get with it and again be prepared.

There are several northeast sdo leasing contracts that are up in April. However, that does not mean the end all be all for them.If the volume has not been contracted out by then it will still be cheaper for staples to sign new leases,go on a month to month basis, then break them when they have to.It will cost them less to break the lease and sub it out then commit to keeping the sdo open for a lengthy period of time
Anon60307 - Staples bid out all the deliveries in late 2013/early 2014 with an RFP (request for proposal.) They knew at that time what they were going to do but haven't shut the fleet doan all at once becuase they knew what a pain it is to transition to a courier (multiple ones) at one time. They are doing them in waves to allow the transition to go as smoothly as possible. The meeting I had with my Director and FSM prior to the announcement was a rough day, but seeing the faces of all the other guys when it was announced as a group was even worse(we were one of the 2014 closures, and as such were caught off guard.) To those are still there -,DO NOT let yourself be caught off guard like I was. Do not think your SDO is too big or too profitable close - they will close you too. They want to save a BILLION dollars, and when you close a fleet, that's how you save thamuch money. If you are still there, good luck. You will be getting your news soon. BE PREPARED for it!
Basically it goes like this ...the SDO mgr will get word their fleet is being looked at and bid on for 3rd party . In a few week's time it will be determined if the will close . Our SDO was part of this last wave. Once announced their will be a driver meeting and the terms of their severance plan will be discussed and what is expected of them as the transition occurs. It took about 10 weeks for this to happen at our SDO. The weeks leading up to it is like a doom cloud.
@60140 - you shouldn't expect to see lists of the actual SDOs that are closing until into February. Seems we don't know until they make it pretty much public anyways, and those on here who have insider information seem fairly reluctant to post it on a public forum
Good question 60129.. lets hope we get a response. I'm in an SDO/ sales office, our transportation team go severed back in November.. the rest of sales is in tact and furniture too.. but I too wonder how in the end it will all effect the rest of the support teams, not just trans ops support.
Can we start to list SDOs here so they turn up in searches as people look for information about closures?
By support functions, do you mean within transportation ops or are they planning to axe sales admins, etc next?
I hope ours is sooner rather than later.A nice severed spring vacation sound nice!
