Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

The harder you work and the better employee you are at Qualcomm in following the rules, the more likely you are to be replaced overseas...

Unfortunately, with the way things are in Qualcomm. If you are actually a good employee in the U.S. and completely document your architecture, design, implementation of your hardware/software/firmware etc, you really make it very easy for someone overseas to take over what you are doing. It might not be the same level of passive, quality, or excellence, but it will be "good enough" from the eyes of bean counters and management at Qualcomm..And with the cost savings of hiring 6-8+ people overseas versus you, they will think those folks will be a much better value than keeping you...It's like keeping a neat desk...If your desk is neat, someone can easily walk into your office and find and grab something...If on the other hand, you keep a messy desk, then it will be much harder for someone else to find anything. You however, will be able to find something, and you will be able to tell if someone was in your office looking through your stuff....So the best way to keep your job is to create as much barriers to entry within your local team in the U.S., so that prying hands in other groups outside the U.S. can't takeover what you are doing.. It reduces overall productivity, but we're talking survival here....And let's face it, QCOM management to give a rats ass about you in the U.S...If in doubt, look at all the WiPro contractors that are here from abroad...
