CCI Purchase

Does anyone really believe that the purchase of CCI by ECMC (if it actually goes through) is a good thing, or is it just an "if it saves my job I am fine with it" mentality?

I totally agree with you. Why bring over the management & Socle who sank the ship?? They are not trustworthy at all. Why repeat history??

Anonymous59447: We have quite a few staff members who are well educated, have good experience, and are true professionals. If you want to really be honest, our instructors are the dregs. We don't pay them as well as staff but they stay anyway and there are always more to take their place if their numbers drop. Why? Their only option is to try to get a few adjunct gigs at community colleges, and most of them wouldn't even qualify for those. That's the sad but honest truth.

@Anonymous59335+@Anonymous59447, it will take solidarity between workers (teachers, IT, etc.), students, and communities to make any worthwhile change. And that would require a willingness to struggle and take risks.

Ultimately, you need to organize in some fashion, whether its through a union or not. Kaplan has organized a few workers.........https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaplan_Teachers_Union......

SEIU has also considered organizing FPE workers..........http://forprofitu.org/......Anyone who is interested can send ne an anonymous email..........http://www.wikihow.com/Send-An-Anonymous-Email

409 - There are a HUGE amount of employees at CCI that are not instructors. Why do you and 335 think that instructors are the righteous gods at CCI? I work my ass off every day here. Quite frankly working in IT, I have the ability to take down the entire infrastructure. Without my integrity, you would have no place to work. Maybe you are the "deluded koolaid drinkers and professional liars"? Putting yourself above everyone else here.

If they keep the divisionals and RVPO's it will be the same S**T . If they bring in honest, and ethical people we will be in a better place.

I am hoping it is a good thing. It will take time. Biggest thing will be the wage offer. If they cut wages at the campus level they won't have to worry very long. No one will be left. And with all the question marks. Who would hire on?

I think first and foremost that it is good for the Federal Government that this deal goes through so that they don't have to write off the immense amount of student loans. I am a former employee and have no skin in the game anymore. I also feel that for those that are still working for CCI, it is a "job security" position, even with the unknown changes that will come with new ownership. On the other hand, I am not certain that it is in the best interest of the students that are stuck in this mess. I had little issue with the skills training that the students received while I was there, although the academic piece was always a bit shaky. I also firmly believe there are several very good employees that are always looking out for the students best interest, across several departments. Until the dust settles, it can really go either way.

407: #335 states there will be TWO kinds of posters from non-instructors. 1: the unscrupulous, 2: the... well never mind. Drink up and have a great day.

Hey 335, I have to say that I'm really offended by your statement that the instructors are the only ones with real integrity. There are lots of people that work here that have a great deal of integrity. Some of these people are actually in management. I have zero opinion on the sale until we give it some time. The arguments that have been made on this site for and against the sale are good for the most part but based on a lot of unknown factors.

At some level I fear that many of us look at ECMC with rose-colored glasses. There are yet many unknowns that could potentially have an adverse effect on us. We don't know what the staffing levels will be (reduced enrollment would seem to indicate reduced staff...). We don't know the salary schedule (non-profits tend to pay significantly less....). We can hope - but don't realy know - what the policies and practices will be that impact how we view our jobs (it probably can't be worse, but....). Don't mean to be a negative Nellie, but I think we should suspend judgement until the facts are known - and have a good plan B.

I would say that the sentiment that seems to be part of every opinion on ECMC is "things can't get any worse." Most people (including myself) believe that CCi management are the among the very worst in ethics and competence. ECMC is inexperienced, but hopefully have some business education and energy that they can draw on to inject some functionality and standards into our operations.

Good question, but your sample will be filled with responses from deluded koolaid drinkers and professional liars. I hope a few instructors (the only ones w any real integrity) that have done their homework regarding the nature of ECMC will chime in.

I believe it is good thing. Depends on the full and complete executive team that is hired. We will be pisitioned to put resources and processes in place that are for the benefit of students.
