Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Stock keeps going up this week. Any thoughts on why the sudden upswing?

I feel like something is up but can't figure out what.

I think we dipped too low, it's just stabilizing for now. We'll see what happens in future, every time we announce layoffs the price will go up

Just speculation before Quarterly numbers announcement. Depot's report wasn't bad so the market is guessing leading up to Wed.

More layoffs and cuts to payroll = more $$ for Ron's bonus.

More layoffs equal extra cash for daytraders. I hope we all get fired so my 401k goes up for a month :)

Closing stores and laying off workers improves the bottom line for a short period of time. It also tells Wallstreet that management is making tough decisions.

Same with Office Depot. Trying to beat projections for the 3rd quarter, or at least show that they are in that direction. Unfortunately, cutting staff and closing stores creates profit for stock. Not always a good thing when stock prices go up.
