I was supposed to get my first severance check last week. HR messed up and we didn't get it. I got a call from HR on Friday afternoon indicating that they messed up and we won't be getting it last week because they didn't file the paperwork. So basiclaly they laid us off and then forgot to pay us the severance that was indicating in the paperwork. They didn't care just that they forgot to file the paperwork. What a crap company.

I was salaried and given X amount of weeks paid out once a month(as opposed to being paid monthly like I had the previous years.) Paying me for X amount of weeks (1x per month) instead of straight monthly for x amount of months saved them $1,xxx. Being a single income family, that $1,xxx would have really helped out. Ultimately I didn't catch the issue until my final payment came and was lower than I thought it should have been.
Sorry to hear about your situation. I would have expected this kind of crap from these people, absolute scumbags.
Don't take this the wrong way, but at least you are getting severance. They are pre-emptively firing a lot of people for BS reasons to avoid paying severance.
Just as an FYI, you can sign up for unemployment immediately. You may get told that you have to wait, you don't. Because the severance agreement has a clause that states that by signing it you can't dispute missing wages, you are able to start the process for unemployment immediately rather then wait until your severance has been paid out.
I have to say. ..but this happens a lot........everyone that I know that has been severanced out....it takes about 2 weeks to get paid....yes...it's horrible. ..you work your butt off...live pay check to paycheck...give your all into staples including your soul....they just don't care!!! Sad!!!
