Thread regarding ITT Educational Services Inc. layoffs

Layoff facts

Worked at two campuses in metropolitan area. Former adjunct because I no longer accept jobs at ITT Tech. Was facing increasing pressure to deliver cheap, lousy curriculum to students who were pressured to pay big bucks for lousy product. Until recently, was able to modify packaged curriculum to provide students with better experience, but admin is now requiring onsite faculty to use packaged, online curriculum. Must be cheaper way for ITT to do business. Anyway, enrollment has been dropping for years. ITT executives have heads up their a--holes, making changes that make ITT Tech more and more dysfunctional. Meanwhile, most of the full time academic jobs have disappeared. More full time salespeople than instructors. One or two full time instructors left. Five departments (IT, electronics, drafting, criminal justice, business) used to have their own department chairs. Between 2 campuses, there are four chairs left. At one campus, electronics chair acts as drafting chair, though he has no drafting expertise. Likewise at other campus, electronics chair has become business chair. Chairs now teach 4 classes as well. The associate dean was just laid off from the larger campus, while associate dean for the smaller campus was laid off a couple years ago. Full time faculty have to teach six classes to retain full time status, and campuses have too few students for this. Classes which have fewer than 10 students register are not offered onsite at all, and students have no choice but to take that class entirely online. ITT Tech executives don't want to pay for full time academic positions, either for teaching, or curriculum writing, or management, regardless of how many complaints students and faculty make. ITT Tech is a shrinking company. Last I heard, in a talk the CEO gave, the latest plan for boosting enrollment is hiring more salespeople. So if you want to lure people into low quality, over priced vocational classes, and you can buy into the myth that students getting legitimate "Associate Degree in Applied Science" for their $40,000 dollars, then ITT Tech has the job for you.

It appears that the US government will work with predatory banks and loan servicers to bail out for-profit colleges. At the same time, they are willing to leave students and workers in worsening conditions. Some workers may be able to keep their jobs, but those jobs may not be worth it. Many students will find themselves in debt peonage......http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/11/20/corinthian-ecmc-for-profit-colleges_n_6195354.html?utm_hp_ref=tw

Anthem, Corinthian Colleges (Heald, Everest, Wyotech), EDMC (Art Institutes, Argosy, Brown Mackie, South)...what's stopping ITT Tech from being the next in line? CEO Kevin Modany resigns. Auditor PWC leaves. The $79,000,000 JP Morgan bailout was only to satisfy a debt to the US government. Will Richard Blum (Dianne Feinstein's husband) do anything to further bailout ITT Educational Services? http://www.law360.com/articles/593666/itt-auditor-walks-away-amid-ceo-search
