Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Well just had a meeting at a shipping/distribution center, for a retail regional meeting.

The talk of termed assistants, Tech Sups, and the extension of part time team sup to full time seems like the emerging strategy for all but tier 1 stores. Also, the way to honestly gauge the future of your store is to see if you get new POSs because that investment is big enough that only our long-term investments will get it. I'd say pay close attention because there are GMs who run tight, profitable, clean stores but due to market contraction and climbing logistics expenses it's not enough to keep you afloat. Lastly, there is a strong unspoken push to remove tenured staff, from manager to associate so that pay can be renegotiated on a new term basis and ensure an expense reduction.

I don't see how they can cut tier 2 stores. There's only about 20 or so Tier 1 stores in the company. You can't create a company wide strategy based on 20 stores. I don't buy it.

The transition from experienced managers to full and part time supervisors is not working to well. Store conditions are worse than ever. Supervisors know there is no room for promotion and higher pay so they do not care. Stores are left a mess each night at closing, shelves not filled, etc. Elimination of more store positions is just another stop on the path to the closure of the majority of retail locations. It's just one big downward spiral, like a flushed toilet.

My store got new cash register computers. The new ones are black, replacing the old white ones. The software remains the same. Does that count as new POS?
