Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Staples is abusing me!!

I work 5 days a week, 14 hours a day. I am exempt from overtime.

Staples abuses me and my efforts and does not recognize the hard manual labor I put forth night after night. The only response I ever hear is that my numbers could be better. My quality of life sucks. It's time to get out!!

HR is on the side of the company. No one from HR is on your side. Remember that.

2 options- 1) oh yes they'll pay I've seen it before 2) quit file unemployment stating a hostile work environment. Just because you're exempt doesn't mean you have no rights.

You are not alone friend. There are a group of at least 5-6 managers and supervisors who are working with the DOT and their attorney's to put a final stop to this utter abuse. Most of these associates are working and even driving a Staples truck 60-70+ hours each week! I'm positive this will hit the fan before the end of 2014. Touch base with your local HR manager, when that doesn't go anywhere this will add more value to your case. Help is on the way just hang in there buddy.

"If you contact HR and point out your salaried for an expected 45 hour work week you can demand compensation or threaten to litigate, they'll pay a settlement typically."

No, this will not happen. There was a lawsuit for the assistants and it took about 4 years to go through the system. They covered their asses against the GMs during this issue.

As a GM, how many associates did "eliminate"? That was the language used for me when I was let go from my full time position. Let's not forget that my GM or my Ass't Manager didn't even have the nerve to do it they brought in a GM from another store. So I'm can't say I'm all that sorry for what happens to GM and Assistants. Who I feel bad for are folks who were made Team Supervisors and then given the worst schedules and no pay raises, and promised the moon, and who still believe what their told. If you have no plans to get out, start making them. Staples does not value you or your experience.
