Staples to close its Amherst distribution site, laying off 14
Staples, the national office supply company, is closing its distribution plant in Amherst early next year, putting 14 people out of work, according to a layoff notice filed with the state Labor Department.
The company told state officials it is closing the plant at 25 Hazelwood Drive for economic reasons. The plant is expected to shut down by Jan. 16 and employees will not have the right to bump workers at other Staples locations.
The facility at 25 Hazelwood Drive is part of Uniland Development Co.’s Audubon Business Centre.
Staples began operating out of that site after acquiring Spectrum Office Products, a privately held office supply dealer based in Rochester with a location there, in a stock deal in 1994.
