Thread regarding Symantec Corp. layoffs

Symantec Huge layoff coming October 2014 the 7th - Browns first act is the axe

The news is out expect 10 % of all employees to be cut some 2000 workers, why

1- Symantec has been back filling support jobs in Pune India, despite customers dislike for speach issues, so instead Pune support staff take over the webex sessions and make the changes for the customer.

2- Symantec over forecasted earning for 2014, all employees asked to take off 3 days PTO during September 2014, and now they get the axe.

Not a reliable company for experienced people it is good for interns and fresh from college.

Management believes in "use and throw policies".

Mediocre company in all areas except product management.

Too much drama as if they are friendly but ask them to involve in project their true colors come out very insecure people.

People get promoted based on being yes man/gender war /internal squabbles

unstable management.

CEO is very normal I am sure he will not add any value.

He is splitting company and letting go all old COO's and other top leaders who can make difference resulting loss of money and low morale of employees.

At the same time recruiting people a lot at top positions...

This is can be very expensive to investors with low returns.

My friend was among those who lost their jobs. She'd been with Symantec for 13 years. She got two month's pay and one month of employment services....after THIRTEEN years. She's in her fifties and is overweight, has a mortgage on a house she recently bought, and is supporting a family member. She sold her home in Los Angeles and moved to the bay area so she could be closer to headquarters. She's also an English major without a masters. She'll be competing for jobs against younger men and women with high tech degrees, who are physically fit...how is she going to get another job? I can't do much to help her, but I can remove Norton and use another service. Symantec is outsourcing jobs to India...and getting rid of dedicated employees here. Sorry, but that stinks.
