Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Staples stock - when should I sell

I am being laid off. I recently received a reimbursement check for any stock I purchased in 2014. My etrade account is showing that the stock I have purchased from previous years is declining. It is worth $1000 less this week than last. My manager says the stocks seem to go up when they announce closures. Can anyone tell me if that is true? When would be a good time to dump my stock?

As a staples employee and day trader on the side (something has to make the money) I can't tell you when to sell because I'm not a stock professional, but as someone who plays the stock market very often, and does considerably well, I can tell you that wall street likes action. If the company were doing horribly and they continued operating as normal, spls would be downgraded, and downgraded again. As long as they had released the stock to you prior to 9/26 and likely they did, I would hold onto it. Just for the sake of the dividend payment. I don't see us going below $11 per share again until the next earnings date, but I do see us stabilizing around $11.50-$12.00

There is as outside chance of an ODB-Staples merger.

Depending on how much you hold don't sell before the next payout date 10/16 which is coming up fast.

If there are more drops before 10/16 then I wouldn't sell. If there aren't then sell before 10/16. I know that is what I am doing. As a tenured ex emp, I've been stuck with a lot of this dog stock as well. For too long!

Very hard to tell. Stock is up and down. third quarter report is 11/19. If what your manager says is true, there will probably be announcements of further layoffs and store closings. stock will go up. Definitely sell before Thanksgiving
