Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

25,000 people will be laid off in 2015

So, we'll go from 100K to 74K (headcount) in 12 very short months. That adds up to 2K/month - HR will be busy indeed.

Good news is we hired a third party to handle all of it. And it only cost us $3.2m. Which in corporate talk is only 2 years of no store bonuses and 5k more layoffs in 2016. The company we hired? Just happens to be one of Ron's buddies.

Yes, I the previous poster noted the 98 to 75 reduction, unfortunately we're targeting labor as the most controllable expense and anyone in corp. finance will tell you tangible goal equals tangible profit, unfortunately it's at the expense of our bottom tier staff, ironic that giants would only walk as large on the backs of the workers.

Another similarity I noticed when Borders was closing...in comparison to Staples...is the word of denials from management that they are actually closing.

I remember when the stories were all over the internet and the news, the local Borders management staff was still telling customers that they were going to remain open and stories of their closing were false........I've seen this happen with several retail giants...the denial that they are closing to keep the employees there until the last possible minute.

That figure tells me Staples will be history. It doesn't matter what the corporate people are saying ....that doesn't sound like a place that's transitioning to an "online" company....if this is true and these numbers are accurate Staples will slowly dissolve it's inventory until they find a buyer or they go chapter 11.

Have to pay for all that new stuff at Framingham somehow. Fitness center, trainers, etc,etc.. No money for bonuses though, even for stores that did their jobs and made their budgets and CSAT goals. Got to have a gym at HW though.

Maybe the $300k Ron ripped off could have paid for some of it.

Karma is a bitch though.
