Thread regarding Heald College layoffs

Employee Owned

Being bought by another school has its pros and cons.but It may end up delaying the inevitable of another Washington intervention. Having investors is a possibility, but most are looking for a buy low and sell high, which most investors know may not be a positive outlook. What would it take for Heald to become employee owned? That may be the best option. Complete accountability and authority to do the best job they can because they are all relying on each other. I wonder. ;-). I'm 52 and 59

This could be an interesting concept. One that has been done before. Not sure who would lead this charge on how to make that happen.

It's a nice concept, but I don't think we are big enough in employee pool to sustain 12 campuses. Maybe if employee owned had 51% of controlling body and the other. 49% were various investors.

I'm in. Not sure how that would work to launch. Would probably need a beneficiary at the beginning to get us started, then we buy from them. I do agree that the college would work that much more collaboratively should we go in that direction. I do believe we need to shed some of the non Heald culture that has penetrated our system. Leave The "CCI Way" behind. And develop our own "I Will" statements.

I was reading the Corinthian board on unionizing. This would seem to be an even better move if we want some employee control. How can we expect a corporate type with no experience in education to run a college? Unionizing would give employees a voice and some control.

Please send me your $20k and I get the fund started. I am the widow of a Nigerian Prince and I cannot use the $700 million he left me. In exchange for your help I will purchase your college and put it in your name. God Bless

A pile of money, too, and a big gamble. Better to gamble with somebody else's money.

This has been posted as a possibility before. I think the poster said shares could be sold. $1k each or something for an equity position.

You would need to establish a corporation in order to buy Heald.

This has long been my dream. One constant about Heald College is the dedication and integrity of its employees. We do a great job and if we owned the college we would make careful decisions about the allocation of funds. I don't the capital to get this started, but I'm willing to chip in 20K of my own money. Anyone else? How much would you be willing to put up to help buy the college back? We were stronger, better, prouder as an independent institution.
