Laid off due to "lack of work" but told I was a "valued member of the team".

Went from about 30 field staff members to 2. I was in surveying sector in Pa. Didn't take long to go down the drain once they hired a few dumbass managers. Really sad to watch that happen. Very very poor communication and all the good guys are gone or laid off and most will probably never go back. If the work does pick back up they will have a hard time finding good people because in this business word gets around and when you do people wrong, it usually comes back and bites you in the ass and that's what is going on right now. All the people that were loyal to the company got screwed and the new management staff they kept. Then funny thing is most new management staff left so now your left with nothing. "treat people first" is def not this sectors motto. More like "lay off all your good people first"
Stantec is a joke. The reason you got laid off most likely is because management staff don't have the experience to manage people. With my experience all the qualified guys got laid off and the dumbasses are still working. I have watched Stantec go from a lot of work to nothing simply from hiring dumbass supervisors that don't know what is going on. That would be like me telling a mechanic how to build an engine, that's what is going on there. Just because you have years and years experience doesn't mean you will be a good manager either. I would pick up cans before working for Stantec.
Sadly Job market is shitty right now.

Sorry to hear it but at least you got a fairly well outlined reason. I was just let go.
I was also laid off the same week and the only explanation was "Termination due to lack of work".
No further explanation or discussion as to why I was picked, even though I did have projects on my lap
Funny, When I started I was told that this company prides itself in never laying people off and putting people firt. All lies I suposse.....
Which department/sector was laid off? How many people?
