How much has Staples lost with ink recycling rewards. My guess is millions in the past 7 or 8 years. I believe it went nationwide in 2006, after a test run in the Chicago area in late 2005. Employees were initially stealing those $3 coupons and when Staples went to on line redemption there were some customers with a dozen accounts. They picked up empties on eBay for 30 cents and received $3 credit, until Staples dropped it to $2 per cartridge. It was a cottage industry from 2006 to 2012.

I know many folks who made good buck doing this. It was a bummer once they stopped it in 2012.
