Thread regarding Alcoa Inc. layoffs

Alcoa plant in Massena (West)

The Watertown Daily Times had a report on potential layoffs at Alcoa in West Massena - do you maybe have more info about what's going here? The info available is mostly by Alcoa and there is very little useful info on the web. I'd appreciate if someone can post who is being affected, what dates, what the plans are and so on. My ex is working there and me and kids are dependent on his support - I would hate if something was to happen to his work, it's not like it's very easy to find work today. Thank you for the information!

Massena received a tax deal from the state of New York to extend operations and keep it open for at least another 3 years. They were going to close that site (or at least curtail it) last January 2016.

Point Comfort is curtailed, and so is the Wenatchee and Warrick Indiana smelter plants.

The biggest reason for all this is because China has been building a lot of smelter plants and making so much aluminum at cheap prices that it's forcing metal prices to drop and there is no way that US smelters can operate in the black. One of the plants mentioned here was losing over $5 million a month.
