March 25th - March 28th

I have heard that sometime between March 25th and March 28th a few hundred Sales and Services Managers will be let go.

Anyone have a total of how many people this affected and what the severance package was?

"My department in the home office has fallen under --so many different managers-- during the past year"

All that says is that there are STILL to many top tier "managers" in Framingham.

our store just had its hours cut, and by that i mean the hours our store is open a week, and our sales manager was let go from his position.

If you see it, say it. It's all about accountability at staples

I have a cost saving idea, maybe the executives could give up their stock options in exchange for staples stars points. Set the example guys.

Folks if you work for Staples make sure that you don't reveal your identity, this is being watched closely by Staples corporate.

They let the wrong people go then. Someone please justify why they need Demos, Otis, and a bunch of other senior VPs if they are closing all these stores?

When I made the comment "maybe some pay cuts on the upper tiers might be in order too?". I was pointing to the guys that make the decision to deny the store managers bonuses and decide to shitcan a bunch of SSMs without notice, yet they still justify taking home hefty stock options...

You do realize they laid off some of the highest paid 'upper tiers' last year, right? That's part of the reason everything is so unorganized right now. My department in the home office has fallen under so many different managers during the past year as they still figure out this 'restructuring'.

They announced in my region stores dropping in tiers and they let go some managers today. They will have the rest completed by Friday the 28th

Like I said in the first post, sometime between today and Friday. I just don't have anymore information, sorry. It seems to be a pretty tight lipped thing. The person that told me is reliable.

The stores in my area will be next. There is next to nothing as far as traffic is concerned. The square footage of the store was cut down last year to accommodate new business in the mall. It was quiet then and now it's like a museum....no one shops there. W.B. Mason, Wal=Mart, and other retailers offer better prices on-line. Staples will be completely on-line as a retailer or Chapter 11.

Anyone working there and not looking for a new job is foolish. It is only a matter of time. 225 stores now will not get them the savings they need. Be prepared for more closings every year and constant threats of layoffs in between closures.

I'm being intentionally vague here to protect them and myself, it was from someone higher up and in the know in a regional/corporate position. I don't know the criteria for who goes and who stays. I don't know if they realize that the talent and leadership that they have left in the stores will remember last year and start to get nervous and jump ship. This may be only affecting the Sales and Service Manager positions, but the rest of us are going to start wondering if we're safe. Maybe some pay cuts on the upper tiers might be in order too?
