At JobTarget, about a quarter of its hires were unemployed when they were recruited, including Deb Katz, who was hired as a marketing manager in January. She had been laid off three times before, and each time, needed more than six months to find a new job, though always with a salary increase. This time, she was out of work three months, and made a lateral move after her layoff from Open Solutions Inc.
She said the marketing department there was once 14 people and is now down to three, and the company worldwide dropped more than 1,000 employees, from its peak of 2,500. Open Solutions did not return a call from The Courant.
