Wow. "The Voice of Reason" has popped in and gave his two cents. He never heard of the company. LOL I have. I worked there. The management isn't incompetent and useless. They don't care about the employee. My biggest complaint is that my director had breath that smelled like rotten eggs and...burnt electrical charge. Not that he ever lowered himself to speak to his employees. thinking Maybe that is why he didn't speak. You are a "human resource", not "people who care about the company and sacrifice a lot for it". Not that I did any of that. I got laid off in June (right before the vacation plan changes). My walking papers stated I was given an "unprecedent" layoff package, all of my vacation, weeks for every year, outplacement assistance (which is excellent I might add), and health benefits (which allowed me to spend my flex dollars). I am no dummy I know that they did this because they let go of protected classes - older workers, women, minorities, and a pregnant woman. I chilled for a month and then hit the job search full-time. Within four weeks I was offered three jobs. One sucked. If you are asked to go to IPS...Stay away! But the other two were wonderful! It is always nice to have a choice. The other people that were laid off with me found really great jobs. I still have all of my severance and I am waiting for my pension/retirement distribution. Thanks Uncle Sigma-Aldrich! Your wonderful severance is making my kitchen lovely and a fabulous VIP trip to Las Vegas! Too many smart employees sit around scared to make a move because Sigma-Aldrich is "stable". S-A is a stable stock to own, but as an employee you are just human capital. Look at the management. It is quantity, not quality. I say all of this to say that THERE IS LIFE OUTSIDE OF SIGMA-ALDRICH. A very good life I must add. Sh!t I am happy that I was laid off when I was because it sounds like a very unpleasant work experience. Good luck!
